Prince William and Prince Harry consider 'rival documentaries' in tribute to Princess Diana

Could Prince William 'be forced to fight back'?

Days ahead of the 28th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana, fresh claims have emerged concerning plans from both Prince William and Prince Harry regarding a documentary about their late mother.

Princess Diana was just 36 when she died in August 1997 following a car crash in Paris. Her sons – the Prince of Wales, Prince William, and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry – were 15-years-old and 12-years-old respectively when she passed away.

Now, tabloid websites have speculated a Princess Diana project could be in the offing as part of her younger son’s deal with Netflix. But it is also claimed any attempt by Prince Harry to get a production off the ground regarding his mother could mean Prince William will be induced to do the same.

Will there be a new Princess Diana documentary?

The Daily Beast claims Archewell, the Sussexes’ production company, is “in talks” regarding a doc. It is reportedly scheduled to be made ahead of the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death in 2027.

An unnamed source is quoted as saying: “Harry is looking to do a series about Diana in 2027. They want to get the right partners and we have had a conversation with them. I’m sure other production companies have too.”

An inside account would be the TV sensation of all time.

The anonymous insider apparently went on: “An inside account of the implosion of Charles and Diana’s marriage, and Harry’s story of Diana’s death and its aftermath would be the TV sensation of all time.”

‘Cashing in’ allegations

Both siblings were previously involved in a documentary commemorating their mother’s passing two decades on in 2017. At that time, before ‘Megxit’, Prince Harry was still a working member of the royal family.

However, Sky News Australia claims that programme was intended to be Prince William’s “last word” on losing his mother.

Nonetheless, it is alleged that Prince Harry “could be looking to cash in” on the 30th anniversary. And, reportedly, that “may force” Prince William to produce a rival doc.

“If Harry is now going to do another massive Netflix show effectively claiming her legacy, William will have to fight back, whether that’s with an interview or a documentary of his own,” a source is said to have alleged.

Back in March, amid claims a Princess Diana documentary could actually prove “a stepping stone to building bridges” between the royal brothers, the Independent reported speculation concerning a series containing three episodes were “not true”.
