Duke took Duchess to visit his mother’s grave
Princess Diana, who died at age 36 in 1997 following a car crash in Paris, was buried at Althorp, the Spencer family’s ancestral home. The royal was laid to rest on an island at the centre of the lake, The Round Oval, and her grave is off-limits to the public.
Harry spoke about Meghan Markle visiting Princess Diana’s grave in his memoir, Spare, which was published in 2023.
He says his uncle Charles Spencer, gave him a ‘little shove’ and they rowed out on a boat to the island to visit her gravesite.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex took the trip in 2022, on what would have been the 25th anniversary of the royal’s death.

“And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.
“We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity,” he continued.
“Feeling that Meg might also want a moment, I went around the hedge, scanned the pond. When I came back, Meg was kneeling, eyes shut, palms against the stone.
“I asked, as we walked back to the boat, what she’d prayed for,” Prince Harry added. “Clarity, she said. And guidance.”
