Meghan Markle could face being in a “difficult” position if her husband, Prince Harry, starts to rebuild bridges with the royal family, according to a royal commentator.

There’s also a “sacrifice” Meghan reportedly won’t make when it comes to her children.

Next week, Prince Harry returns to the UK to attend the 2025 WellChild Awards, a charity he has been a patron of for 17 years. Of course, there’s speculation over whether he’ll reunite with his family during his trip.

Since stepping back from royal life in 2020, Meghan, 44, and Harry, 40, have become distant from the royal family. This is mainly thanks to the Sussexes’ tell-all interviews and Harry’s memoir Spare, in which they spoke about their experience within the monarchy.

Will Prince Harry meet with his family during UK visit?

Nothing has been confirmed. But sources have claimed that Harry could meet with his father, King Charles, face to face during his UK visit. It would be their first known meeting since Harry visited in February 2024 after the king revealed his cancer diagnosis.

However, according to reports, any meeting between Harry and his older brother, Prince William, is unlikely.

If Harry starts to reconcile with his family over here, Meghan will ultimately face an exceedingly difficult choice.

In May of this year, the Duke of Sussex expressed a desire to reconcile with his family. He told the BBC: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious.”

Harry also claimed that his father wasn’t speaking to him.

We don’t yet know if Harry and the king plan to meet when the duke is in the UK next week.

But if they do, it may start to help them rebuild their relationship. But, according to royal commentator Duncan Larcombe, if Harry does reconcile with his family, Meghan could “ultimately face an exceedingly difficult choice”.

Meghan Markle could face ‘difficult choice’ over royal reconciliation

Speaking to New! magazine, Duncan said: “Meghan clearly hates being apart from her children. When Harry has come to the UK, Meghan hasn’t come with him and has been blamed for snubbing Britain as a result. I think it runs deeper than that. She wants to be a hands-on mum and was never prepared to make the sacrifice that royal mums have to make.

“If, and hopefully it’s a ‘when’ not an ‘if’, Harry starts to reconcile with his family over here, Meghan will ultimately face an exceedingly difficult choice. Does she come with Harry and look the people she’s criticised in the eyes, which is going to be tough? Or does she allow Harry to come with the children and stay away?”

He added: “If it’s the latter, she would miss the children, and it would be interpreted as an enormous snub by Meghan herself and the rift then becomes more about her than Harry. So she faces potentially difficult choices if we’re getting to a state where Harry’s prepared to bury the hatchet.”

Harry and King Charles ‘determined to meet’ during UK trip

With Harry heading back to the UK from California in just a few days for the WellChild Awards, speculation is rife over whether he’ll take the opportunity to see his estranged father.

According to one source, both Harry and the king are determined to “make this happen”.

The insider told the Mirror last week: “After 20 months apart, and with the king continuing his treatment, the feeling is that the time is right to take that step. This is not about grand gestures or set-piece meetings. It’s about a simple face-to-face conversation between a father and his son.

“The priority is privacy and dignity, but also ensuring the door stays open for further dialogue.”
