Prince Harry's food ick 'explained' after Meghan Markle reveals royal doesn't eat lobster

Good enough a reason 'not to marry him'?

A potential explanation for why Prince Harry might have a food ick when it comes to crustaceans has emerged.

Ahead of the release of season two of With Love, Meghan, a teaser trailer revealed that Meghan Markle‘s husband isn’t fond of lobster.

Restaurateur José Andrés, one of Meghan’s celeb guests on her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, lightly mocked the royal when he discovered he isn’t a fan of the fishy delicacy. But it seems Prince Harry’s aversion could be shared across other members of the royal family, too. And it may also involve certain safety precautions.

Does Prince Harry have a ‘food ick’?

Episode eight of With Love, Meghan’s second season contains the full food confession Meghan makes that was first revealed two weeks ahead of the series dropping online.

It also includes “cruel” kitchen scenes which revolted some viewers. They were left wincing as restauranteur José prepared a seafood feast as a treat for the filming crew.

“Meghan should be ashamed of herself for supporting such behaviour,” one unhappy viewer seethed on social media.

But when the trailer first popped up, a fortnight before the series was available to stream, it was Prince Harry’s sense of taste that came under scrutiny.

Why doesn’t Prince Harry eat lobster?

“Do you know who doesn’t like lobster?” Meghan mentions to José as he expertly works on his dish.

“Who?” the chef replies, as if unable to comprehend anyone not adoring lobster.

“My husband,” Meghan admits, leaving José pretending to be exasperated as he went on: “And you married him?”

Now, however, it appears Prince Harry and his royal relatives may not partake due to health concerns.

Why do the royal family never eat shellfish?

That’s because, according to reports, the royals do not traditionally eat shellfish. A former royal butler called it a “sensible move” to “abandon having seafood” completely when out on duties.

This could potentially mean Harry hasn’t grown too fond of lobster if he tended to avoid seafood during his time as a working royal.

Other foods said never to feature on menus for the royals include garlic and foie gras.

The royal family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning.

Grant Harrold, former butler to King Charles, is reported to have shared: “When dining, the royal family has to be careful with shellfish due to shellfish poisoning, due to their work schedules.

“It is a very sensible move to abandon having seafood when out and about on public duties.”

Additionally, Queen Camilla is reported to have previously indicated why royals can’t consume garlic.

During a 2018 reception in which she spoke of her fandom for MasterChef Australia, Camilla was quoted as saying: “I hate to say this, but garlic… is a no-no.”

Asked whether that related to royals spending so much time during engagements speaking with those they meet, she confirmed at the time: “Yes, exactly. So you always have to lay off the garlic.”
