Prince William and Kate Middleton to visit Natural History Museum as they return to work
The couple will return to work after spending the summer with family
Prince William and Kate Middleton will return to public duties after their summer break, with their first joint appearance set to take place at London’s Natural History Museum later this week.
Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince William, 43, and Kate, 43, will visit the museum’s newly redeveloped gardens on September 4.
The couple will explore how children and young people are being encouraged to connect with nature and support biodiversity in urban spaces.

Prince William and Kate Middleton to appear at Natural History Musuem this week
The Princess of Wales currently serves as Patron of the Natural History Museum.
Later this week, she will join Prince William to tour the site’s Nature Discovery Garden and engage with schoolchildren taking part in the National Education Nature Park programme, a nationwide initiative that’s already reached thousands of schools, nurseries, and colleges.
The museum’s gardens were unveiled in 2024 as part of its Urban Nature Movement. Since then, they have quickly become a hub for environmental learning and innovation.
Described as a “living laboratory,” the gardens allow visitors and scientists alike to “identify and monitor wildlife in an urban environment” through cutting-edge technology.
According to museum researchers, more than five million visitors have explored the space since its launch. Studies have shown that young guests in particular feel more motivated to spend time outdoors after visiting.
The Nature Discovery Garden has proven especially popular. Many visitors have reported improved wellbeing following their time spent in nature.

What will William and Kate do at the museum?
During their visit, William and Kate will observe how students are using technology to support conservation efforts and create new green spaces in their communities.
The couple will take part in a pond-dipping activity with pupils from Lewisham. They will also speak with students from Manchester who are transforming their school grounds into vibrant ecosystems.
Kate previously visited the Museum in 2021. During her time, she was introduced to early plans for the Urban Nature Project.
This upcoming visit serves as a natural follow-up. Especially as both the Prince and Princess of Wales are passionate about the environment.
Meanwhile, Prince William continues to champion environmental innovation through his Earthshot Prize. The initiative provides funding to support global solutions to climate change and nature loss.
The Princess of Wales continues to lead her Mother Nature project, a documentary series highlighting the human connection to Britain’s changing seasons.
In 2019, she co-designed the Back to Nature Garden for the Chelsea Flower Show. She has also long supported the Scouts, who encourage access to outdoor adventures for young people.
With their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, back in school this week, William and Kate’s visit marks the start of a busy autumn schedule focused on issues close to their hearts.
