Jennifer Hudson's remark over Meghan Markle is a little bit embarrassing
She had no idea that Meghan Markle was American!
Before the world tuned in to watch Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle in May 2018, Oscar-winning singer Jennifer Hudson made a comment that raised a few eyebrows.
While speaking ahead of The Voice UK live final that spring, Jennifer took a moment to congratulate the soon-to-be royal couple.
But when asked about Meghan, particularly her status as an American joining the British royal family, the singer seemed genuinely caught off guard.

Jennifer Hudson reveals she didn’t know Meghan Markle was American
“Is she an American child? Are you serious? I didn’t know that,” Jennifer exclaimed in surprise, as reported by the Irish Independent. “Oh my God, I did not know that. Go, girl!”
The Chicago-born star had even offered to sing at the royal wedding, enthusiastically saying, “I think I should sing!” before the awkward moment revealed she hadn’t realised Meghan was also from the US.
The comment may have been a harmless slip. However, it came across as slightly embarrassing considering Meghan’s background was a major talking point in the global media.
Despite the slip-up, Jennifer expressed her love for the UK. She revealed that her time filming The Voice UK had made her feel increasingly at home. The singer has also been a judge on the US version of The Voice.
“It’s feeling more like home so when I do go home I miss it,” she said. “When I’m here I feel at home.”
She wasn’t the only Voice UK coach talking royals that week.
Sir Tom Jones, who was set to perform at the late Queen Elizabeth II’s 92nd birthday celebrations that same month. The singer reflected warmly on his past meetings with Her Majesty.
“She lights up when you talk to her. She really takes an interest in what you say,” he gushed. “I think it [the royal family] is a great institution. The Queen especially, she’s such a lovely person.”

Meghan Markle tipped to release memoir
Now years later, Meghan and Harry live in California after stepping back from their senior royal roles. They’ve become estranged from the royal family thanks to their tell-all interviews and Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan.
This year has saw Meghan launch her Netflix cooking show, With Love, Meghan.
However, according to some odds, With Love, Meghan could be facing possible cancellation. But there’s odds on Meghan’s next move being a bombshell memoir.
According to Pundit Arena, odds of the duchess releasing a tell-all book stand at 8/11, making it the most likely step in her post-Netflix career, ahead of ventures like fashion or acting.
The lifestyle and cooking series debuted in March and returned with a second season in August. But despite strong viewership and celebrity guests, reviews were mixed.
The show is now 1/2 to be cancelled, with odds of renewal for season three at 6/4.
“Odds suggest we may have already seen the final season,” said Pundit Arena’s Joe Lyons.
Speculation over Meghan writing a book has persisted for months, especially surrounding her untold experiences as a working royal and her fraught relationship with the British press.
