Donald Trump will make his “unprecedented” second state visit to the UK in a matter of weeks, hosted by King Charles.

But with the US President visiting, security is expected to be on high alert. King Charles, 76, and Queen Camilla, 78, will host Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, at Windsor Castle from September 17 to 19.

With just under two weeks to go, police have confirmed that “significant airspace restrictions” are being put in place as part of a major security operation during the visit.

Security measures in place for Donald Trump’s state visit

Thames Valley Police said aircraft – including drones – would be subject to the restrictions. The restrictions will be enforced with the help of the National Police Air Service. They said they “will have resources available and tactics deployed to enforce these restrictions and deal with anybody who fails to adhere to them”.

Police have also said they will work closely with others to ensure safety and “minimal disruption to the local community” during Trump’s visit.

Chief Inspector Matthew Wilkinson said: “We have a significant security operation in place in and around Windsor for the visit of President Trump.

“As is typical for events of this scale, we are implementing a significant airspace restriction to keep the local community and attendees at the event safe.

“If you notice anything suspicious in the air or on the ground, please report this to police. You can speak to an officer, make a report online, via our website or call 101. If something is taking place now, always call 999.”

Where will Trump stay in the UK?

President Trump, 79, and the First Lady, 55, will stay at Windsor Castle during their stay in the UK as Buckingham Palace continues to undergo renovations.

The king invited Trump for a second state visit earlier this year. Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered a letter from the king to Trump when he visited the White House in February.

If you notice anything suspicious in the air or on the ground, please report this to police.

Trump called the invitation a “great, great honour”.

In the letter, King Charles called Trump’s visit “unprecedented”. Traditionally, second-term presidents aren’t offered an official state visit. Instead, they’re usually invited for tea or lunch with the monarch.

Trump made his first state visit to the UK as president in 2019, hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Itinerary for state visit with King Charles

At this stage, a full itinerary hasn’t been confirmed. However, all state visits include a full ceremonial welcome and a state banquet at the castle, in St. George’s Hall.

We could see senior members of the royal family involved in the visit in some capacity.

One royal commentator described Kate, Princess of Wales, as the “icing on the cake” for Trump if she were to be involved. She continues to balance her health with her return to duties following her cancer treatment last year.

Prince William will likely have involvement, too.

So, the countdown to Trump’s visit begins!
