Meghan Markle allegedly made a “delusional” attempt to be at the bedside of Queen Elizabeth II when she died, according to a royal commentator.

The anniversary of the queen’s death (September 8) is around the corner. It has been almost three years since the world mourned the monarch who sat on the throne for a record-breaking seven decades.

Prince Harry also spoke about the tense conversation he had with his father when he brought up whether Meghan could join him at Balmoral.

Meghan Markle made ‘delusional’ attempt to be at deathbed of the queen

The queen passed away in 2022 while in Balmoral at the age of 96.

Members of the royal family were by her side when she passed away, but some didn’t make it to her in time. However, it was alleged that Meghan Markle attempted to be at her side too when she died.

The reports were discussed on Sky News Australia’s Royal Report by commentator Kinsey Schofield and show host Rita Pahani.

Discussing the reports, Rita explained that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had attempted to “bypass” the Palace’s official decision over who was welcome to be by the queen’s deathbed in her final hours.

“That really gives some insight into the dynamics of the family at that fraught time,” Rita said.

“Yes, here in the States, we call de-lu-lu. Delusional,” Kinsey said. “The fact that you think you would be welcome at the Queen’s bedside as she is passing away.”

Kinsey then went on to say that the reports claim Meghan and Prince Harry‘s press team released news that Meghan would be at the Queen’s bedside. This was allegedly to “force the royals hand”.

“That is not how this works. You do not force these people’s hands at such a difficult point in time in history,” Kinsey continued.

Kinsey then said that Meghan and Harry were “not welcome” at the Queen’s deathbed after allegedly snubbing the late monarch’s request to spend time with them.

Meghan was ‘asked to stay away’

While members of The Firm rushed to Balmoral to be by the late queen’s side in her final moments, not everyone was said to be welcome.

Reports emerged that claimed King Charles made the difficult choice to tell his son Harry that Meghan shouldn’t attend.

Prince Harry wrote in his memoir Spare, released in January 2023, that it was a tense conversation. He said his father told him that sister-in-law Princess Kate Middleton wasn’t coming up with William, so Meghan doesn’t need to come either.

He claimed: “He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want… her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it.”

The duke bit back against his father: “Don’t ever speak about my wife that way… He stammered, apologetic, saying he simply didn’t want a lot of people around. No other wives were coming, Kate wasn’t coming, he said, therefore Meg shouldn’t. Then that’s all you needed to say.”

Only Princess Anne was by her mother’s bedside when Queen Elizabeth II passed away. King Charles and Queen Camilla had spent time with her before leaving to give Anne alone time with their mother.

While Charles was driving back to the estate, he found out the queen had died in a tragic phone call.

‘Kate made her own decision’

However, in Robert Hardman’s biography, Charles III: New King, New Court, The Inside Story, he wrote that Princess Kate wasn’t asked to stay away. He said that the Princess of Wales made the decision herself, to support her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The mum-of-three wanted to remain at home as her children were set to start their new school, Lambrook, the same day the queen had died.

Hardman adds that Kate’s decision helped ease the conversation between Charles and Harry, as he could explain Kate wasn’t travelling to Balmoral either.

At the time, Charles had phoned his two sons, telling them to make their way to Balmoral as soon as they could to say their goodbyes. He still believed his mother had time left to live, but sadly, she didn’t.

The biography alleges the king wanted the Duchess of Sussex to keep her distance to avoid conflict within the royal family.
