Royal prediction over monarchy's future when Prince William becomes king
Is this the end of an era?A former royal butler has made a big prediction over what might happen when Prince William becomes king.
Grant Harrold worked for King Charles for seven years, from 2004 to 2011. In that time, he witnessed countless changes to the monarchy first-hand.
However, he believes that the biggest change of all is yet to come, making a bombshell claim over what might happen when Prince William eventually takes the throne.

What will happen when Prince William becomes king?
In a recent interview, ahead of a new tell-all memoir, The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life in Royal Service, Grant Harrold discussed the next generation of the royal family.
He first noted that the Prince of Wales, who is, of course, first in line to the throne, has a very different attitude towards royal life to that of his father and late grandmother.
“William has talked about ‘Royal’ starting with a lower ‘r’, as well as describing their new house as their ‘forever home’,” he explained.
Over the summer, it was announced that the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three young children would be moving from their four-bedroom home of Adelaide Cottage, where they have lived since August 2022, to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge, also on the Windsor estate.

They will reportedly fund the move privately and pay market rent on the property. A date for their move hasn’t been confirmed, but they are expected to be in their new home by Christmas.
The court is going to move to Windsor one day in the coming years
It has since been suggested that the couple intend to stay living at Forest Lodge long-term, even when Prince William becomes king.
In light of this, Harrold predicted: “I have a theory that the court is going to move to Windsor one day in the coming years. I think it’ll become the hub of the monarchy once again. It was only during Queen Victoria’s rule that Buckingham Palace became the focal point of the monarchy.”

What will happen to Buckingham Palace?
Making a comparison to the Palace of Versailles in France, Harrold considered whether Buckingham Palace might take a backseat, used only to host more formal royal ceremonies and open to the public.
He explained that cost was a big reason behind this shift, and the Wales’ awareness of the UK’s growing cost-of-living crisis.
“We’ve seen William fronting campaigns surrounding homelessness,” he said.
“It’s difficult to stand on the world’s stage saying, ‘I want to eradicate homelessness’, when you’ve got an eight-bedroom palace to live in. It doesn’t look good.”
