Queen Elizabeth was “full of fun” ahead of her death despite struggling as her ‘health deteriorated’ in her final days, it was revealed.

The Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields stayed with the queen at Balmoral. He stayed at the royal estate after performing a sermon at Braemar and Crathie Parish Church.

Despite keeping up with her duties until her last day, she was facing ‘difficulties’ before she passed away on September 8, 2022, a close friend claimed.

Queen Elizabeth II was ‘full of fun’ in her final days

Greenshields had dinner on Saturday (September 3) and lunch on Sunday (September 4) with the queen. Princess Anne and the then Prince Charles were also in attendance.

Of course, they both had spent time with the queen in the hours before she died.

Speaking to The Times at the time, Greenshields commented that Queen Elizabeth II was on great form, adding that she was “really full of fun” in her final days.

“It was a fantastic visit. Her memory was absolutely amazing and she was really full of fun,” he said. “It came as a great shock to me when I heard she was gravely ill because she was in amazingly good form over the weekend.”

He added: “She was the life and soul of things. She was speaking very personally to me about her time there way back when she was a child.”

Greenshields went on: “She was talking about her horses from the past, naming them from 40 years ago, people’s names and places. She was quite remarkable.”

Facing ‘great pain’

Whereas, a year later, a close friend of Queen Elizabeth II alleged she was having difficulties in her final days in regards to her health.

They told The Daily Beast: “For the last years of her life, certainly from when her husband died [in April 2021], the queen was in a lot of pain. In the final months, of course, it got very much worse.”

They added it took a lot for the monarch to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during her final summer alive.

The insider claimed: “She barely moved from her apartments in Windsor Castle. Appearing on the balcony for the Jubilee required a titanic effort.”

They also said she had struggles with hearing and with her vision, despite remaining loyal to her duty before her death. The late queen appointed Liz Truss as the Prime Minister just two days before her health took a turn for the worst.

According to her official death certificate, Her Majesty passed away due to ‘old age’.

But a secret memo from her private secretary also revealed that she died in her sleep, feeling ‘no pain’.
