What has Prince Harry done during his UK visit?

On Monday evening (September 8), Harry was present at the annual WellChild Awards in London. Harry has been patron of the charity, which supports seriously ill children and their families, for the past 17 years.

Nottingham has been a place where I’ve heard harrowing stories, learned important lessons, seen resilience, and felt truly inspired.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (September 9), he travelled to Nottingham, where he visited the Community Recording Studio. The initiative, supported by BBC Children in Need, provides creative opportunities for young people, through teaching film and video skills and providing access to musical equipment.

Prince Harry has supported the organisation for many years, last visiting on World Mental Health day in 2019.

Harry’s donation to Children in Need

It was here that the duke announced his substantial donation of £1.1million to Children in Need. Harry said the donation has from his own money rather than his Archewell foundation.

The donation is designed to help with the charity’s work tackling violence that impacts young people.

Hundreds gathered to meet Prince Harry upon his arrival in Nottingham on Tuesday.

During his day in the city, he was pictured spending time with young people and youth workers at the community initiative.

Harry also joined in discussions about tackling youth violence and creating more positive opportunities for young people in UK cities.

Clearly touched by the visit, the duke reportedly said: “Nottingham has been a place where I’ve heard harrowing stories, learned important lessons, seen resilience, and felt truly inspired.”

He continued: “The incredible work being done by grassroots organisations like CRS and Epic Partners is not only inspiring – it’s essential. We’re grateful for the support of BBC Children in Need in helping changemakers in the city continue their mission to create safe spaces, build trust, and offer hope and belonging to young people who need it most.”

The prince said that he hoped his donation would help “changemakers in the city continue their mission to create safe spaces… and offer hope and belonging to young people who need it most”.

Prince Harry makes UK trip without Meghan

The city of Nottingham holds particular significance for Prince Harry, as the destination of his first royal engagement with his then-fiancée, Meghan Markle, in 2017.

Of course, Meghan has not accompanied him on this trip, instead choosing to remain at home in Montecito, California, with the couple’s two children, Archie and Lilibet.

Meghan has not visited the UK since 2022, when she and Harry flew over for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
