Hundreds of people have reportedly been left disappointed after Princess Anne’s team revealed a last-minute cancellation in Northern Ireland today.

The Princess Royal was reportedly due to visit a charity shop in Holywood, County Down, this morning. This afternoon, Her Royal Highness attended a garden party at Hillsborough Castle.

Unfortunately for royal fans, the princess had to call off her plans at the last minute this morning.

As well as her visit to a charity shop, Anne was also expected to officially open a new Sense Hub in south Belfast.

According to reports by the Belfast Telegraph, those involved with opening the Sense Hub were informed 20 minutes prior to Anne’s planned arrival that she would not be attending the event.

In the end, Health Minister Mike Nesbitt performed the opening.

The publication also claimed that people on a local community Facebook page for Holywood reported there had been police activity and queues forming in anticipation for Princess Anne’s arrival.

Unfortunately, their expectations were met with a no-show.

Princess Anne ‘cancels’ appearance

As per the reports, a royal source allegedly blamed “unavoidable logistical problems”.

They claimed that these had “impacted on Her Royal Highness’s travel schedule”.

The insider added: “Her Royal Highness apologises to any who were disappointed or inconvenienced as a result and hopes to make arrangements to visit on another occasion.”

Although changes were made to Anne’s schedule, she reportedly did make it to her afternoon engagements.

It was here that she presented 106-year-old veteran Norman Irwin with his British Empire Medal (BEM) before attending the annual garden party at Hillsborough Castle.

The royal was also pictured helping to plant a tree. Anne also was said to have greeted guests and was accompanied by Secretary of State Hilary Benn.

Princess Anne’s plans during Northern Ireland trip

The 75-year-old royal has made regular visits to Northern Ireland.

In May she travelled to Londonderry. It was here she attended a commemoration marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Battle of the Atlantic.

During her visit she was also greeted by local primary schoolchildren at the Cathedral Youth Club.

The Royal Diary details that Anne is set to visit Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre tomorrow, September 11.

She is also expected, as president of the UK Fashion and Textile Association, to visit Edge o’ Beyond Factory in New Tredegar, Caerphilly.

The Princess Royal’s busy schedule

Anne, who is also a patron of the Royal College of Midwives, is also expected to visit Aneurin Bevan Health Board Maternity Services at the Grange Hospital tomorrow.

Her engagements don’t stop there, as the princess has engagements in Wrexham and Birmingham, England, on September 12.

By September 14, Anne is expected to be in Edinburgh, Scotland!

There is no wonder she is often described as the hardest-working royal!
