Prince Harry made a “promise” to his father, King Charles, after their meeting in London on Wednesday (September 10), it has been reported.

The Duke of Sussex, 40, and King Charles, 76, met in person for the first time in 19 months this week.

Prince Harry meets with King Charles as they reunite after 19 months

Wednesday saw Harry and Charles reunite for the first time since early 2024.

The last time father and son saw each other in the flesh was reportedly after the king announced he’d been diagnosed with cancer in February 2024. Prince Harry flew back to the UK to meet with him upon learning of the news.

This week, in between charity events, Harry met with his father at Clarence House in London.

There’s a long way to go before Harry can earn his family’s trust, but he’s given some assurances.

The duke was there at 5.20pm (BST) on Wednesday and stayed for around 55 minutes before heading off to an Invictus Games reception in Central London.

Upon arrival at the event, Harry was reportedly asked how his father is. “Yes, he’s great, thank you,” the duke replied.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Charles and Harry had a “private tea” at the king’s London residence.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince Harry reportedly assured his father that their meeting would remain private.

Speaking to the publication, a source reportedly said: “This is an important first step towards rebuilding their father-and-son relationship.

“He has told his father he won’t be giving any interviews about it, and his team has been instructed not to brief journalists about what was said.

“There’s a long way to go before Harry can earn his family’s trust, but he’s given some assurances.”

Prince Harry has previously detailed meetings with his father in his 2023 autobiography, Spare, and in tell-all interviews.

Royal Insider has contacted Buckingham Palace and Harry’s representatives for comment.

‘Privacy’ may have discussed in Harry and Charles’ meeting

Of course, the details of Harry and Charles’ meeting have remained private. However, that hasn’t stopped speculation.

Charles’ former royal butler Grant Harrold has revealed what might have been discussed in the brief meeting.

Speaking on behalf of OLBG, Grant said: “I’m sure it wouldn’t have been the easiest of conversations, I imagine it would have been slightly awkward on both sides. There is only so much talking their advisors can do, at the end of the day it needs to be father and son sitting down to resolve this.

“But we may never know the outcome of this. We may see relations improve or decrease depending on the outcome of this, but only time will tell.”

Grant also speculated that Harry’s recent charity work, Meghan Markle, and Harry’s relationship with Prince William may all have been discussed too.
