Following his UK visit, Prince Harry has made a poignant confession about his two young children, Archie and Lilibet.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, has just returned to the US following his trip to Europe.

Despite staying less than a week, he managed to fit in: a handful of charity engagements, a £1.1 million personal donation to BBC Children in Need, a trip to St George’s Chapel to lay a wreath for his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, a reunion with his father, King Charles, and even a trip to Ukraine.

Prince Harry at the WellChild Awards

The main reason behind Harry’s visit had been to attend the WellChild Awards, which took place in London on September 8. Prince Harry has been a patron of the charity, which provides support to seriously ill children and their loved ones, for the last 17 years.

Through the awards, the charity aims to spotlight both the extraordinary resilience of young people with complex medical needs, and all the people who go the extra mile to help them.

Prior to the charity awards ceremony, Harry met privately with the young winners and their families.

When you have your own kids, that’s when it really hits you.

The event sparked him to make a moving admission about his own children.

His son Prince Archie, six, and daughter Princess Lilibet, four, had stayed home in California with their mum, Meghan Markle, rather than accompanying their dad abroad.

Prince Harry makes confession about his children

Speaking to Hello! at the event, Prince Harry opened up about how having his own children had deepened his already strong connection with WellChild and their work.

“Once you become a parent yourself, everything changes,” he said.

“It’s emotional enough, not being a parent and seeing what these families go through,” Harry added. “But then when you have your own kids, when you’re expecting your own kids, that’s when it really hits you.”

Back in 2018, Prince Harry attended the annual awards do with wife Meghan, while she was pregnant with their first child, Archie, where he appeared to get very emotional.

No doubt recalling this moment, he added: “I remember one of these years, I choked up on stage, and that was exactly it: I am so grateful to have healthy kids.”

During his trip to Ukraine after his stay in the UK, Prince Harry hinted that he was considering bringing Archie and Lilibet back to the UK themselves in the future.

In a candid interview with The Guardian, the duke confirmed that “yes” he would like them to see the place where he had grown up, and even that, “this week has definitely brought that closer”.
