King Charles and Kate Middleton seem closer than ever as the two royals were seen warmly greeting each other at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral on Tuesday.

Princess Kate and King Charles’ bond at Duchess of Kent’s funeral

Princess Kate, 43, performed a respectful curtsy to King Charles at the funeral service, as well as giving him a kiss on the cheek. Beside them, members of the royal family gathered outside Westminster Cathedral.

The two senior royals shared a quick embrace. It was here that Charles was photographed as he wrapped his arm around Princess Kate. He was then seen exchanging a few words with her and Prince William.

King Charles is said to be especially close with his “beloved daughter-in-law,” following their shared cancer diagnoses, revealed in early 2024.

Since then, their support of each other has said to have “cemented” a unique and fond bond.

In fact, there has been a string of occasions where the two royals have demonstrated just how well they get along.

For example, last summer, when Princess Kate and the rest of the royals attended Trooping the Colour, Kate stood firmly next to her father-in-law.

A change from the year prior, where Charles has been situated next to his eldest son, William.

Charles and Kate ‘cherish’ each other

Body language expert Judi James told MailOnline at the time: “Charles made Kate his centre of attention to signal both how much she is cherished and how grateful he was at her attendance.”

According to Judi James, the two royals share interests in the arts as well as sharing health challenges.

She said: “Charles has always had an increasingly special relationship with Kate, who he has grown to trust and delight in. Here though, that relationship was highlighted to illustrate how those bonds have only deepened and enriched by their bonds of empathy created by their illnesses.”

They were also said to have “compared notes” throughout their cancer treatment. The monarch is still currently undergoing treatment whilst Kate’s preventative chemotherapy treatment came to an end this time last year.

King Charles’ visits to Kate during cancer treatment

In the Channel 5 documentary Kate: A Queen for the Future, royal editor Richard Kay explained Charles and Kate’s hospital meetings.

He claimed: “The king actually made a point of going to see Kate. And there’s this rather touching story of [Charles] in his dressing gown padding down to his daughter-in-law’s floor. They compared notes about the rather good hospital food, how their treatment was going. It was a moment of great affection.”

How sweet!

Members of the royal family gathered yesterday to pay their respects to the Duchess of Kent and her family.
