King Charles, and other senior royals, formally welcomed US President Donald Trump to Windsor today for his second state visit.

The president, 79, and his wife, First Lady Melania, touched down in Britain on Tuesday night, ready for two days of engagements with the royal family.

On Wednesday, the Trumps were greeted by the Prince and Princess of Wales in the grounds of Windsor Castle. Prince William, 43, and Princess Kate, 43, then took the president and first lady to meet with King Charles and Queen Camilla for a ceremonial welcome.

As the Prince and Princess of Wales greeted the Trumps, the four were seen engaging in conversation.

Lip reading expert Nicola Hickling shared what she believes they discussed. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Nicola claims that the president asked the Waleses about their children.

William reportedly replied: “They’re well and at school. The new term started a couple of weeks ago.”

Trump later told the couple: “We have lots to catch up with, and there’s been lots of changes.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales then took the Trumps to meet with the king and queen.

King Charles, 76, and President Trump enjoyed a conversation before a royal carriage procession took place.

Queen Camilla, 78, and Melania, 55, travelled together in a separate coach to the king and president. Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales followed.

The Trumps were then met by a Guard of Honour within the grounds of Windsor Castle as part of the ceremonial welcome.

King Charles and President Trump then carried out the military inspection. Trump was seen taking the lead as the king followed behind.

What else has Trump been up to in the UK?

Following the ceremonial welcome, the president and first lady looked at a display of objects from the Royal Collection.

As detailed by the Royal Collection’s Instagram page, these included a letter written by The Queen Mother describing “a picnic at President Roosevelt’s holiday home in 1939”.

Other objects included a watercolour painting of a woodpecker by English artist Mark Catesby as well as a tickertape message sent from Queen Victoria to President James Buchanan in 1858, describing their friendship.

The collection shows the strong relationship between the US and the UK.

On Wednesday evening, King Charles will host a state banquet in honour of Trump’s state visit.
