Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, has given a rare insight into the university life of her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, during her trip to Japan.

Louise, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s only daughter, is currently commencing the fourth and final year of her English degree at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Meanwhile, her younger brother, James, Earl of Wessex, is reportedly studying for his A-Levels at Radley College.

Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh in Japan

Prince Edward, 61, and his wife, 60, recently spent four days in Japan, on an official royal visit.

It’s been a busy month for Prince Edward, who travelled to Japan after a visit to Papua New Guinea, where he was representing his older brother, King Charles.

Meanwhile, while Edward was in Papua New Guinea, Sophie remained in the UK. She attended the Duchess of Kent’s funeral with other members of the royal family.

As the couple reunited in Tokyo last week, they soon went their separate ways once again.

The duke learnt about conservation projects at the Kasai Marine Park, caught up with British athletes competing in the World Athletics Championships, and met some of the 42,000 children living in the Japanese care system.

Meanwhile, the duchess paid a visit to some Ukrainian refugees and evacuees now living in the city.

Last spring, Duchess Sophie became the first member of the royal family to visit Ukraine following the Russian invasion. There, she met with President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as paying her respects to those who had lost their lives during the conflict.

Clearly moved by the experience, she began by telling the refugees in Tokyo that she was “so sorry for what is happening” in their country.

Sophie shares Lady Louise news

According to the Telegraph, during one moving interaction with a Ukrainian teenager, Duchess Sophie also shared an update on her own daughter.

Well I’m sure your mother is happy to know that you’re safe.

“Who cooks for you? Who does the household chores?” Sophie reportedly quizzed 16-year-old Daniel, who had continued living in the Japanese capital after his parents had to return to Ukraine.

The duchess was stunned and impressed as the boy revealed that he does all this himself.

“As well as studying?” Sophie reportedly replied. “Goodness me. That’s a lot for a 16-year-old. Well I’m sure your mother is happy to know that you’re safe. I don’t underestimate how hard it is, so well done.”

As Daniel went on to reveal his ambitions to study International Relations at university, the publication said that Sophie’s face reportedly “lit up”. She shared that her daughter was also studying the subject as part of her English degree.
