As reported by the BBC, lawyers for Prince Harry have reportedly told the High Court that William and Kate may have been the targets of unlawful information gathering by the publisher.

The allegations are said to relate to surveillance around William’s 21st birthday party and phone data linked to Kate.

The Duke of Sussex is one of seven high-profile figures accusing Associated Newspapers Limited of “grave breaches of privacy”.

The others include Baroness Doreen Lawrence, Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish and Elizabeth Hurley, Sir Simon Hughes and Sadie Frost. The alleged privacy breaches date back up to 30 years.

ANL has repeatedly denied the claims, which include allegations of phone-hacking, bugging homes and gathering medical and financial information dishonestly. They also argued that the claims had been made “far too late”.

Now, it seems the Prince and Princess of Wales have also been named as possible targets.

What are the allegations?

In written submissions to the High Court yesterday (October 1), Harry’s barrister, David Sherborne, alleged that it could be “inferred” through an invoice that details in a Daily Mail story ahead of William’s birthday were “obtained through blagging” – meaning dishonestly.

The alleged invoice from 2003, reportedly headed “Out of Africa Story Royal Party Enqs”, was cited by Harry’s barrister as evidence.

Another record allegedly showed a journalist commissioning a different private investigator to provide a “mobile phone conversion” related to the Princess of Wales and phone numbers from a “family and friends” list.

The two-day hearing is set to conclude today (October 2). Actress Sadie Frost and filmmaker David Furnish have been attending in person, while other claimants joined remotely.

The court is expected to rule at a later date which allegations will proceed to trial. The trial, which could last up to nine weeks, is then scheduled to take place in January.

Last year, the Duke of Sussex finally settled his years-long phone hacking claims against the Mirror News Group.
