On Thursday (October 23), King Charles and Queen Camilla met with Pope Leo as part of their state visit to the Holy See.

Their Majesties landed in Italy on Wednesday, where they were given a warm welcome. There, according to a lip reader, a concerned Charles was spotted giving Camilla a clear warning.

King Charles’ ‘warning’ to Queen Camilla

King Charles made history on Thursday by becoming the first reigning British monarch to pray publicly with a Pope in more than 500 years.

The historic state visit meant that countless eagle-eyed royal observers were keeping watch as events unfolded.

This included lip reading expert Nicola Hickling. She revealed the warning Charles gave to his wife as they touched down in Rome.

As the couple made their way down the steps from the aircraft on Wednesday evening, Charles reportedly uttered a few words.

Nicola explained whilst speaking to Betfair Casino: “As King Charles and Queen Camilla stepped out of the plane doors, the king could be seen turning to his wife, cautioning her, ‘You ought to be careful going down the steps.’

“Ironically, just as he spoke, he appeared to lose his own footing before quickly steadying himself and making a brisk recovery.”

King Charles’ feelings about visiting Rome

As the king and queen descended onto the tarmac, Charles gave away more of an insight into how he felt as he landed in Rome.

Nicola said: “Moments later, speaking to those waiting to greet them, the king lightened the atmosphere by saying to an officer or pilot, ‘You have the same name as me. You’re also a Charles, I see.’

“The man replied, ‘Absolutely.’

“The king then added warmly, ‘Marvellous journey… It’s wonderful to be able to come back to Rome, and what a warm welcome.'”

Fans go wild over King Charles’ ‘hot equerry’

This isn’t the only thing royal observers noticed as Charles and Camilla landed in Rome.

Royal fans spotted than none other than Charles’ “hot equerry” – Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson – was also by their side.

The king’s aide first earned the nickname “hot equerry” from fans back in 2018. At the time, he was serving as Queen Elizabeth II’s bodyguard.

He has since gone viral on social media several times.

“My eyes on Johnny,” exclaimed one fan on X (formerly Twitter).

“Ooo – hello Johnny,” chimed in another.

Reverend Kyle Paisley claims King Charles should ‘abdicate’ over praying with the Pope

Elsewhere, it seems King Charles’ history making move hasn’t gone down well with everyone.

Reverend Kyle Paisley, son of Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) founder Ian Paisley, claims Charles’ decision to pray with the Pope means he isn’t being “true to his oath”.

Speaking to BBC Radio Ulster’s Talkback programme on Wednesday, Mr Paisley said King Charles should “uphold the protestant faith”.

He believes that King Charles’ latest move is “breaking his oath”.

He stated that in doing so, Charles is “not upholding his promise to defend a reformed faith when he mixes in that kind of way”.

When asked if he thinks King Charles should “abdicate,” and therefore give up his crown because of it, Mr Paisley replied: “Yes, because I don’t think he is being true to his oath.”
