Charlotte and Louis could have very different futures

Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ royal future has been heavily speculated on for a while now. But it seems there is a new idea of what responsibilities they will be taking on when Prince William becomes king.

Over the last few months, more and more details of what to expect when Prince William takes the role as king have been revealed. And these have included measures that he and Princess Kate are taking to prevent Princess Charlotte from becoming the “spare” – a term Prince Harry used to describe how he felt growing up as the brother to a future king.

While Prince George has his future role pretty much mapped out as second in line to the throne, things are more unclear for his two younger siblings. But now, it seems like they could be partaking in new ventures amid William’s willingness for “change”.

Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ royal future ‘revealed’

Traditionally, the siblings of a monarch become full-time working royals. But it’s already been reported numerous times that Prince William wants change. And that may include the jobs that his children take on.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold – who worked for King Charles from 2004 until 2011 – spoke to Marie Claire about how Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, may be key to modernising the monarchy.

He told the outlet: “There will be a high demand on the children, because their workload will be increased. But the royal family may not be carrying out quite the same responsibilities by the time they are old enough.”

As for what they may be doing instead, he thinks the family could move into more of an influencer role.

Grant explained: “There may be brand endorsements or more support for organisations, with them being seen as celebrities or even taking on that influencer role.”

Prince William has previously hinted that he would like to move away from some historic royal traditions, and Grant agreed that it “will be a different era of the royal family” and one that will be “unpredictable”.

However, it seems he isn’t even convinced that Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will stay as working royals in their future. They could venture into different career paths.

He said: “I think that’s something their father and mother will support. I think the days of the royals having to be royals and do what other royals do will be gone.”

Grant fully believes that if Princess Charlotte opted for another career path instead of her traditional royal future, Prince William “would be welcoming of that”.

Prince William’s plans for change

Just earlier this month, the 43-year-old prince gave a deeper look into his life. He took part in a conversation with Eugene Levy for Apple TV’s The Reluctant Traveler.

When asked about his plans for his future as king, William explained: “I think it’s very important that tradition stays. And tradition has a huge part in all of this. But there’s also points where you look at tradition and go, is that still fit for purpose today? Is that the right thing to do? Are we still doing and having the most impact we could be having?”

Later in the episode, Prince William admitted “change” is on his “agenda”.

He said: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. And I embrace that and I enjoy that change, I don’t fear it. Not overly radical change. But changes that I think need to happen.”
