Prince Andrew makes 'promise' to King Charles as he 'won't do a Harry'

It could send shockwaves through the royal family... again

Prince Andrew has reportedly assured King Charles that he has no intention of writing a bombshell memoir, a direct contrast to his nephew Prince Harry’s explosive tell-all, Spare.

Amid mounting pressure for the royal to vacate Royal Lodge, insiders have claimed that Andrew has promised the monarch he “won’t do a Harry” by airing family secrets in public.

Prince Andrew has been at the centre of controversy for years. He is now said to be in “advanced talks” with palace aides about leaving Royal Lodge, the 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park he has lived in for over two decades.

Prince Andrew makes ‘promise’ to King Charles that he will never write a tell-all memoir

Royal watchers fear that Andrew, often described as the monarchy’s other “Spare”, could “go rogue” if exiled from his home. However, sources close to the royal claim he has made it clear to the king that he “won’t do a Harry”.

“Andrew won’t write a book like Spare. He has promised the king,” a source told The Sun.

Insiders say Andrew is aware of the risk that a memoir could pose to both himself and the monarchy. As his removal from Royal Lodge reportedly looms, Andrew has been careful to show loyalty to his brother.

Andrew scandal

Andrew recently gave up his remaining royal titles and honours amid headlines over his alleged links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew has also been at the centre of sexual assault allegations – accusations he has always vehemently denied.

Virginia Giuffre alleged she was made to sleep with Andrew in the early 2000s when she was 17 after being trafficked by Epstein.

She sued Prince Andrew in a US civil case in 2021. In early 2022, they reached an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed sum.

However, the royal repeated that the settlement did not mean any liability or admission of guilt. Andrew has repeatedly denied all allegations against him.

Sarah Ferguson in ‘talks’ to write a new memoir

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who also lives at Royal Lodge, has reportedly been courted by publishers with offers to write a new book.

Fergie has also given up using her title, Duchess of York, following recent backlash over resurfaced Epstein emails. Sources have claimed that she has also held multiple “exploratory talks” about penning her first memoir in nearly 15 years.

The potential project, however, is said to be more of a “life lessons” narrative than a royal exposé. Still, insiders acknowledge that Prince Andrew would inevitably feature in her story.

Andrew won’t write a book like Spare. He has promised the king.

“A lot has happened since her last memoir. Such as having cancer twice and becoming a grandmother,” a close friend explained. “It’s not designed to exonerate Andrew. But obviously she wouldn’t be able to write him out. He is an important part of her life.”

Fergie’s first autobiography, My Story, released in 1996, gave a candid account of her marriage breakdown and royal life. She followed it up with Finding Sarah in 2011, which focused on her personal and financial struggles.

Since then, major events like Queen Elizabeth II’s death and Andrew’s downfall have changed the public perception of the former royal couple.

What did Prince Harry write in Spare?

Prince Harry’s memoir Spare was published in January 2023. It sent shockwaves through the monarchy with its personal and often scathing claims and revelations.

From accusing his brother Prince William of physically attacking him during a heated argument, to revealing his strained relationship with Queen Camilla and his past drug use, the book painted a raw portrait of royal life behind palace doors.

The fallout wasn’t good, however. The reported rift between Harry and the rest of the royal family allegedly deepened. The monarchy also faced a wave of criticism and scrutiny.

With the royal family still recovering from Spare’s revelations, Andrew’s quiet promise may be one of the few gestures still protecting his ties to the Crown.
