Despite years of reported tension, Prince William and Prince Harry appear to be aligned on at least one important matter: protecting their children from the pitfalls of modern technology.

While their relationship remains fractured, the royal brothers share a strict rule when it comes to parenting in the digital age: no phones or social media for their young kids.

Prince William and Prince Harry ‘unite’ on parenting choice

Prince William recently confirmed this position during a candid conversation with Canadian actor Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveler.

“None of our children have any phones, which we’re very strict about,” William said, referring to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

His comments unexpectedly echoed a similar stance taken by his estranged brother.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have also repeatedly voiced concerns about social media and its influence on children.

At a New York event earlier this month, Meghan addressed their decision to shield Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet from the online world.

“Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old. Can you believe it? Luckily, still too young for social media,” she told the audience. Meghan added that they feel “grateful” not to have to navigate that space just yet.

The Sussexes have also been outspoken about the dangers of digital platforms. Through their Archewell Foundation, they’ve supported initiatives to reform online spaces and promote safer digital environments, particularly for young people.

William and Harry ‘rift’

While this shared parenting philosophy hints at common ground, there’s no sign the brothers have reconciled.

Their once-close bond has been severely strained in the years following Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties in 2020 and the wave of revelations and damning allegations about the monarchy that followed – from the Oprah Winfrey interview to the Netflix docuseries and Harry’s memoir, Spare.

Their last joint public appearance was at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Although Harry briefly visited King Charles last month, reports claim that the visit did not include a meeting with William.

Meanwhile, in a moment that surprised many royal watchers, William referenced Harry during his chat with Eugene Levy. Not directly, but through a reflection on their shared childhood.

“There are lots of things to think about with [Prince George’s future],” William said. “But obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do. A world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better.”

He added: “That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up in. I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”

The comment marked a rare acknowledgment of his brother.

While William continues to prepare George for his future role as monarch, and Harry raises his children thousands of miles away in California, both appear to be committed to breaking generational cycles, particularly around media pressure and public scrutiny.
