Meghan Markle opened up about her hopes for daughter Princess Lilibet in a heartwarming new interview, revealing what would make her “the proudest mom”.

In a conversation published in Town & Country‘s 2025 Philanthropy Issue, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, sat down with 15-year-old Avery Colvert, the teen founder of Altadena Girls.

Altadena Girls is a community relief organisation to support teenage girls who lost their homes and belongings in California’s devastating wildfires earlier this year.

Speaking to Avery and her mother Lauren, Meghan praised the teen’s powerful response to the natural disaster. Altadena Girls has grown from a small Instagram effort to a permanent centre providing support to girls across Pasadena.

The duchess quietly visited the organisation in January, bringing supplies and volunteering alongside families.

At the time, Avery praised her for her help. “Meghan is so incredibly kind. She was so excited to help,” she told Marie Claire.

“You never thought your work would grow to be this big. And even if it hadn’t, it still would have been meaningful and made an impact,” Meghan told Avery. “My goodness, if our daughter turns out to be anything like you, I’ll be the proudest mom.”

Altadena Girls was created by Avery earlier this year to support teenage girls who lost homes and belongings during the fires. The group has since distributed over a million items, including beauty products, clothing, and personal essentials.

They even celebrated the opening of their first physical community space on October 11, International Day of the Girl.

“When you’re a teenager, everything feels like the biggest thing in the world,” Avery told Meghan. “Even if it’s not going to matter in ten years, it really matters to you now. I always forget how much time I have, and this is only the beginning.”

Meghan’s admiration for the young founder was clear. “I was so moved by the way you mobilised,” she gushed.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s efforts during the LA wildfires

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Meghan has maintained strong ties to the area. During the January wildfires, she and Prince Harry were among the first high-profile figures to speak out.

“In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighbourhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centres, and so much more, affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” they said in a joint statement at the time.

The Sussexes also offered their home in Montecito as a refuge for evacuees and collaborated with World Central Kitchen to deliver meals and supplies.

Their Archewell Foundation contributed to multiple relief efforts, including supporting Altadena Girls directly. Meghan even postponed the release of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan to prioritise recovery efforts in the community.

Throughout the interview, Meghan reflected on how her own experience with volunteering as a teen shaped her values, and how she hopes to pass those down to Princess Lilibet.

“At my high school, it was a requirement to do volunteer work before graduation,” she shared, before asking Averty if she had any similar early experiences.

Avery and her mother laughed, as they recalled bringing homemade doughnuts to firefighters during Tennessee floods and tornadoes.
