Sir David Beckham knighted by King Charles

Earlier today, David, his wife Victoria, and his parents, David and Sandra, were at Windsor Castle as the former England captain was knighted by the king.

It came 22 years after he was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.

Speaking after his knighthood today, David said: “I couldn’t be prouder. People know how patriotic I am – I love my country.

“I’ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family. I’m lucky enough to have travelled around the world and all people want to talk to me about is our monarchy. It makes me proud.”

Speaking back in June, David described the honour as “humbling”. “Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour,” he said.

“It will take a little while for the news to sink in. But I’m immensely proud, and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.”

David’s next project following knighthood

Now, a lip-reading expert has revealed what she believes David said to King Charles during their meeting today.

Speaking on behalf of BetFair Slots, lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling claims that David revealed to the king what his next project is going to be.

“I am so proud of all you have done with your sports and charities. Amazing, you are unbelievable. I’m proud to knight you,” Charles reportedly said to David.

“It’s been a great day,” David admitted, according to Nicola.

“Magic. Now, you do what you’re good at,” King Charles replied.

“It’s been my greatest honour, if I’m honest. Next step, I’m going to write a book. But being here has been incredible today,” David then apparently revealed.

David Beckham to write a book?

Charles seemed keen on the idea, reportedly saying: “You can write a book, David. And try not to forget those names.”

“Oh, I’m sure they’ll be so happy to be mentioned in it,” David said, according to Nicola.

“I’m sure of it,” King Charles replied. Then, wrapping up the meeting, he said: “It’s lovely to see you again.”

“Same here, it’s been an enjoyable experience,” David agreed.

David’s bond with the royals

David has had a close bond with the royal family for years.

As well as having a friendship with Princes William and Harry, David also queued up for over 12 hours to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth II when her coffin lay in state following her death in 2022.

In 2024, David was named an ambassador for The King’s Foundation.

“I’m excited to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help raise awareness of the charity’s work. I’ve always been keen to help young people to expand their horizons. I’m particularly looking forward to supporting the Foundation’s education programmes and its efforts to ensure young people have greater access to nature,” he said at the time.

“Having developed a love for the countryside I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills which is so central to the Foundation’s work. It was inspiring to hear from The King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens – and compare beekeeping tips!”
