A royal expert has spoken out after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were criticised for partying with the Kardashians over Remembrance weekend.

Last weekend, the Sussexes attended Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday bash. The star-studded event took place at Jeff Bezos’s mansion complex in Beverly Hills, with Harry and Meghan rubbing shoulders with the likes of Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey and Justin Bieber.

Meghan was then hit by further backlash, as Kim Kardashian shared photos of the event on social media.

In the snaps, which have since mysteriously disappeared,  Meg did not appear to be wearing a poppy, despite Prince Harry having one pinned to his lapel.

Former BBC royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, has discussed the matter with the Mirror.

The expert claimed that the deleted photo drama had blown the matter out of proportion. She then went on to unpack the Sussexes’ decision to attend the party.

‘It obliterates any memory that she was once a royal’

“I’m not sure they need to hide away because of Remembrance Day,” Jennie said, “After all, Harry paid his own tribute during his trip to Canada. And he was wearing his poppy at the party, so he wasn’t ignoring the date. It was perhaps just an unfortunate diary clash, but they have chosen the celebrity LA life now, so they might as well live it and own up to it.”

Ahead of Remembrance Sunday, the Duke of Sussex visited war veterans at Sunnybrook Hospital’s Veterans centre in Toronto, Canada.

Meghan also did her bit to mark the day, with a post on her official Instagram.

The duchess shared a memorable clip from Harry’s second deployment in Afghanistan and a photo of him chatting with a veteran.

“As my husband says, ‘Once served. Always serving’.” She said, “Thank you to all who served, sacrificed, and continue to serve. Honoring you on Veterans Day. And every day.”

“I don’t think the Palace would have taken much notice and I’m sure they are not in the least bit bothered about whether the Sussexes are now having a barney with the Kardashians!” Jennie continued, “Meghan in particular seems to want to hang out with celebrities, and that’s fair enough.”

However, she finished up by adding: “But it increasingly obliterates any memory that she was once, very briefly, a royal.”
