Prince George is already ‘aware’ of his ‘responsibility’ as the royal family enters into a ‘new era’
The 12-year-old future king is reportedly already 'aware' of his future responsibilities
Prince George, now 12 years old, is not just growing up, he’s gradually stepping into the role he was born to inherit.
His recent appearance at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall served as a powerful reminder that the next generation of the royal family is already watching, listening, and learning.
The young prince stood beside his mother, Kate Middleton, and his grandfather, King Charles, with quiet confidence.
With his father, Prince William, still in Brazil following the COP30 summit and Earthshot Prize awards, George held his own on the public stage.

Prince George is ‘aware’ of his future role
At an age when most children are still years away from any public expectations, George has already participated in carefully curated royal moments. His appearance at the Festival of Remembrance was another gentle step forward.
In 1995, a 12-year-old Prince William marked VE Day with Princess Diana. The monarchy is nothing if not deliberate about symbolism. George is now following in his father’s footsteps, almost to the year.
In a new cover story for HELLO!, royal expert Robert Jobson described the future king as “measured and aware.”
“At 12, he is old enough to grasp the meaning of duty without being burdened by it,” Jobson added.
Meanwhile, he noted how Prince William and Princess Kate are redefining royal life in real time with their focus on family and maintaining a stable and grounded home life for their children.
In a recent interview with Brazilian TV host Luciano Huck, William opened up about parenting, privacy, and the importance of family.
“Play dates, taxi driver, sports days, matches, playing in the garden when I can,” he said of family life.
“Catherine and I share it, but she probably does the bulk of it.”
Perhaps most striking, William opened up about how the family has handled Kate and King Charles’ recent cancer battles.
“We decided to tell our children everything. Both the good news and the bad,” he said. “Every family goes through difficult times. How you deal with those moments makes all the difference.”

‘He learns by watching’
The new royal style echoes Princess Diana’s influence, and her desire to give her sons a childhood beyond the palace gates, complete with McDonald’s visits, theme parks, and school runs.
Now, William and Kate are carrying that torch for George, Charlotte, and Louis.
Prince George has only made a handful of public appearances, but each one has been significant.
“He learns by watching: respect, patience, composure,” Jobson added.
Earlier this year, royal expert Duncan Larcombe told OK! that Kate has carefully mapped out Prince George’s journey toward understanding his royal future, starting with small details like his formal attire at public events.
“She was showing George that being ‘on duty’ requires a different approach. He has to learn to don the royal armour,” Larcombe said, referencing Kate’s decision for George to wear a suit at Wimbledon and other key outings.
Meanwhile, royal author Robert Lacey claimed that George was first told about his future as king around his seventh birthday.
In his book Battle of the Brothers, Lacey revealed that William and Kate chose a “controlled moment of their choice” to explain the responsibilities that come with royal life. They reportedly preferred to tell George themselves before he heard it from anyone else.
