'Reason' Kate Middleton honours Queen Elizabeth II's jewellery 'request'
Kate was recently spotted wearing a pair of the late queen's earringsLast week, Princess Kate was spotted wearing a pair of earrings previously belonging to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
It seemed a symbolic statement by the royal. Kate wore the earrings, which Queen Elizabeth had received as a wedding present, on the eve of what would have been her 78th wedding anniversary with Prince Philip.
Now, a former royal staff member has explained the touching reason Kate often wears the late queen’s jewels.

‘The late queen loved jewellery’
Speaking on behalf of Slots Temple, former royal butler Grant Harrold discussed the significance of jewellery to the royals.
He also said that Queen Elizabeth requested that her jewellery be seen, “not just sitting gathering dust”.
“The late queen loved jewellery,” he shared. “She believed she was very lucky to have such amazing pieces, and they should be enjoyed by everyone. She wanted them to be seen, not just sitting gathering dust. A lot of them are kept in vaults, but she believed they should be out.”
He continued: “Regifting is a big thing in the royal family, especially when it comes to jewellery. They want their favourite and most-loved pieces to be kept in the family and passed down for future generations to enjoy.”
Kate wears Queen Elizabeth’s earrings
Turning to the stunning Greville Chandelier earrings that Kate wore to last week’s Royal Variety Performance, Grant said: “Kate has a pair of the late queen’s earrings which she now wears a lot. She started wearing them after her death, so I wonder if they were either in her will or King Charles decided to give them to her. The late queen also gifted Meghan a beautiful pair of earrings ahead of their first joint engagement after Meghan married Prince Harry.”

“These pieces would have always been very special to the royal women, however they have added sentimental value since the late queen’s passing,” he went on. “I’m sure now she’s gone, anything that Kate, Meghan and the rest of the royals have from her will be cherished. Wearing these pieces is having a part of the late queen with them, and bringing her memory to current events and occasions. The fact that they still wear them today shows that royal jewellery is still in fashion.”
Grant also reflected on the importance of the gesture to Queen Elizabeth’s grandson, Prince William.
“I think Prince William will really enjoy seeing his wife wearing these special pieces,” he added. “They belonged to his late grandmother, with whom he was extremely close – and his late mother would have also worn many of them too. He can’t wear them, so it means he still gets to see and appreciate them again. It will be really special to him.”
