Kelly Ripa's sweet comment about Meghan Markle after 'delaying' book announcement due to Harry
Kelly released a book months before Harry's memoir Spare was published
Kelly Ripa didn’t expect Prince Harry to unintentionally crash her book announcement, but she still had kind words for Meghan Markle.
The talk show host’s debut memoir, Live Wire, hit shelves in September of 2022.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal ahead of the book’s launch, Kelly admitted she initially planned to announce Live Wire the same day Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, was revealed to the public.
But after learning about Harry’s blockbuster book deal, she decided to halt her announcement.

Kelly Ripa’s sweet words about Meghan Markle
“I delayed my announcement because I didn’t want the Prince Harry of it all to suck the wind out of my little tiny announcement,” Kelly explained with a laugh. She added that when she finally did share the news, she ended up being overshadowed again. This time, by none other than Jeff Bezos’ rocket launch.
“To me, it was just all bad omens, right? Maybe we shouldn’t announce it at all. Just let people find it in the library,” she joked.
But maybe Meghan Markle will. I mean, maybe.
When asked if she thought Prince Harry would ever read her book, Kelly didn’t hesitate. “Oh, I think it’s probably a zero per cent chance,” she said candidly. “But maybe Meghan Markle will. I mean, maybe.”
Live Wire was described by publisher Dey Street Books as “a sharp, funny, and honest collection of real-life stories” from the beloved Live! host, covering everything from childhood and motherhood to her career and marriage.
The book includes personal essays and behind-the-scenes anecdotes. The memoir was called “surprising, at times savage, and a little shameless”.
Live Wire was eventually released in late 2022. The tell-all skyrocketed to the top of the charts upon release and went on to sell thousands of copies in its first week.

Harry’s tell-all memoir Spare
Meanwhile, the book that prompted Kelly’s scheduling shuffle, Prince Harry’s Spare, became the fastest-selling non-fiction book of all time when it was released in January 2023.
The memoir sold more than 1.4 million copies in its first 24 hours, topping charts globally.
But while it was a commercial success, it reportedly caused “irreparable harm” to Harry’s relationship with his father, King Charles, brother Prince William, and other senior royals.
Published by Penguin Random House, Spare earned Harry a reported £16 million ($20 million) advance. This number may have risen to £22 million ($27 million USD) thanks to its staggering sales.

The prince even hinted he had more material, saying in an interview: “It could have been two books. The hard bit was taking things out.”
Spare delves into Prince Harry’s upbringing, his military service, the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, his marriage to Meghan, and the couple’s controversial departure from royal duties.
The most shocking revelations include an alleged physical altercation with Prince William, emotional admissions about his father’s parenting style and his past drug use.
