Meghan Markle reveals Prince Harry 'would never forgive her' if she didn't serve Thanksgiving favourite
Did someone say a comforting dish of homemade gravy?
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Meghan Markle is opening up about how she hosts the holiday, and the one dish Prince Harry insists on seeing at the table.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the Duchess of Sussex shared her go-to tips for entertaining, including her secret to a smooth Thanksgiving and the must-have classic Harry can’t go without: rich, comforting gravy.

“My husband would never forgive me if I didn’t add that [the gravy] to the table,” Meghan joked, while describing her ideal holiday spread, which features creamy mashed potatoes, green salad topped with edible flower petals, and her signature carrot-top pesto.
Meghan shares two children with the Duke of Sussex. She also emphasised the importance of both preparation and family participation.
My husband would never forgive me if I didn’t add that to the table.
“Chop your veggies and herbs in advance to save time on the day,” she advised. “Your kids can join in too! They can proudly say they helped.”
One creative trick she swears by? Turning carrot tops into pesto by blending them with parmesan, olive oil, and pine nuts, a unique way to elevate leftovers into something special.
Meghan also believes in creating a welcoming ambience to match the food. She suggests lighting a mix of scented candles in living spaces and unscented ones in the kitchen, so the aroma of the dishes can shine.
Hosting essentials include a warm drink on arrival and easy nibbles, like baked Brie with jam.
To keep conversation flowing, the duchess recommends setting out puzzles or board games as casual icebreakers.
“Being a great host is all about anticipating your guests’ needs, something I learned working in restaurants and now love bringing into my own home,” she said. “With a little thoughtful planning, you can make everyone feel comfortable and cared for.”

With Love, Meghan Christmas special
Meghan also encouraged hosts to accept help where possible, even if it’s just picking up a dessert or offering to set the table.
“You don’t get the gold star for doing everything,” she noted. “Accepting support isn’t just practical. It makes everyone feel included and valued.”
She also shared her own go-to guest move: bringing a homemade breakfast for the next morning, like a mason jar of granola with yoghurt and preserves.
“You’ll make their day!” she gushed.
The Duchess of Sussex has brought her love for hosting into With Love, Meghan, a lifestyle series now streaming on Netflix. Seasons 1 and 2 are already available, and a festive special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, premieres December 3.
Just last week, Meghan debuted the trailer. The special will feature cameos from Meghan’s friends Kelly McKee Zajfen, Lindsay Roth, chef Tom Colicchio, and tennis star Naomi Osaka. Prince Harry also appears briefly, sharing a kiss with Meghan in the kitchen.
Last year, Meghan opened up to Marie Claire about always making room at the Thanksgiving table for those without family nearby. She even revealed that feminist icon Gloria Steinem joined her family for the holiday one year.
“You always make sure there’s room at the table for your friends who don’t have family,” Meghan shared.
