Royal family's romantic tradition in November you may have missed

It is a month of love for the royals

The month of November is a very special time for the royal family.

Universally, we might consider February a romantic month due to Valentine’s Day. Even December is a popular time for proposals.

But it seems the royals opt for November by celebrating love.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip pave the way

It looks like Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip set a trend in 1947, when they married on November 20. Since then, a number of royal family members have celebrated love in their own way.

The then-future monarch and Philip Mountbatten tied the knot on November 20, 1947, at Westminster Abbey, where Elizabeth’s parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother, also said their vows.

Twenty-six years later, Princess Anne followed her mother’s lead. She wed Captain Mark Phillips on November 14, 1973.

A generation later, Prince William and Princess Kate followed the same path. Their engagement was announced on November 16, 2010.

In 2017, Prince Harry also shared that he had found his future wife. On November 27, Prince Harry shared that he had proposed to Meghan Markle and that they were engaged.

Although it was a very happy time for Harry and Meghan, it seems that the romantic vibe of November didn’t convince every member of the royal family when a smitten Harry shared the news.

Prince Philip’s jaw-dropping reaction to Harry and Meghan’s reaction

His grandfather, who is remembered for many controversial quips, reportedly said in reply to Harry’s news: “One steps out with actresses, one doesn’t marry them.”

Despite King Charles’ engagement interview with Princess Diana being notoriously awkward, William and Harry’s November engagement interviews radiated love and affection.

Prince William famously proposed with his mother’s engagement ring, a 12-carat oval Ceylon blue sapphire, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds.Today, it is valued at more than £300,000.

William and Kate’s smitten engagement interview

ITV’s Tom Bradby interviewed William and Kate about their engagement and during the chat, Kate gushed that “there’s a true romantic in there”.Kate also admitted she “wasn’t expecting” the proposal “at all,” so Wills really wowed her.

Harry’s interview alongside Meghan Markle was a little more nerve-wracking for the prince, speaking exclusively on behalf of Betfair Casino, body language expert Darren Stanton has explained.

He has re-analysed the pair’s now-iconic engagement interview and pointed out that Harry appeared noticeably nervous during the sit-down chat.

Harry’s nerves after popping the question to Meghan Markle

Harry even appeared to inherit a “textbook protective gesture,” from his father, of tucking one hand into his jacket during the discussion.

“Harry is clearly uncharacteristically nervous,” Stanton detailed. “He was tucking his hand into his jacket a lot. [This is] a textbook protective gesture, one that he and William have inherited from Charles.”

Regardless of Harry’s nerves, the now Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared adorably loved-up and will celebrate nine years since they shared their engagement tomorrow, November 27.
