Prince Harry has made a joke about “drama” within the royal family in a recent Christmas party speech.

The Duke of Sussex addressed guests at the British-American Business Council’s 65th Annual Christmas Luncheon in Santa Monica on Friday (December 5), where he went so far as to compare his royal life to the British TV show Downton Abbey.

While his family across the pond were busy getting into the Christmas spirit at Princess Kate’s Together at Christmas concert, Prince Harry also attended his “first Christmas party in a while” near to his and Meghan’s home in California on Friday.

Delivering a keynote speech at the networking event, the Duke of Sussex opened up on his experience as a British citizen living in the US.

“For me, being British isn’t about where you physically stand, but what you stand for,” he reportedly reflected, as reported by People.

In particular, he said that celebrating the 4th of July had been a bizarre experience.

“It’s a new world to me, celebrating independence from Britain, and more specifically, independence from my great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather,” he mused.

On the topic of royal relatives, the prince then reportedly carried on: “People sometimes ask if growing up with the royal family was a bit like [show creator] Julian’s [Fellowes] Downton Abbey.

“Yeah,” he then quipped. “But only one of those worlds is filled with drama, intrigue, elaborate dinners, marriages to Americans, and the other is a TV show.”

Prince Harry makes Donald Trump joke

It wasn’t the first controversial comment from the Duke of Sussex last week. Earlier on in the week, he made a surprise cameo on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he poked fun at US President Donald Trump.

In a skit with the talk-show host, Prince Harry wandered on set and shared that he wished to audition to be a prince in a Hallmark Christmas movie.

Colbert questioned why Harry could possibly be after the gig.

The Duke of Sussex cheekily explained that it is due to the love for the royals in the US.

“Well, you Americans are obsessed with Christmas movies and you’re clearly obsessed with royalty, so why not?” he said.

Meanwhile, the presenter insisted that he didn’t think that Americans are really that interested in royalty.

To this, Prince Harry joked: “Really?! I heard you ‘elected’ a king. And after making such a big deal about my great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather George III.”

While the line was met with laughter, there were also audible boos and gasps.
