Powerful words from the monarch

After missing Kate Middleton’s Together at Christmas service on Friday, King Charles took part in another festive celebration at Westminster Abbey today (December 10), where he shared a special message.

The monarch joined Christian leaders from across the UK and the world, as well as representatives of other faiths and charities, at a special Advent service. The service highlighted “themes of Advent ecumenicism, and the experience of persecuted Christians”.

The message comes ahead of King Charles hosting Christmas at Sandringham for members of his family.

King Charles shares special message

The king penned a special message for the Order of Service, which later appeared on the royal family’s social media channels.

It reads: “It is a great joy to gather with you in the most glorious setting of Westminster Abbey as we celebrate the light, hope and, above all, the peace of this season of Advent.”

It continues: “This period is one of preparation, of readying ourselves and looking forward to the wonder of Christ’s birth. Today, we gather for prayer, reflection and music, and to celebrate the Good News in which all Christians rejoice: those around us, and those in areas where it is not easy to live out one’s faith. I am so pleased to be joined by church leaders from across the UK and Middle East, leaders of other faiths, charity representatives, and so many of you who contribute to your communities in myriad ways.”

The message is then signed off: “Charles R.”

Many royal fans were touched by the king’s words.

“Priceless words filled with hope, something we all deeply need,” one social media user commented.

“Respect to His Majesty for sharing hopeful words today,” agreed another.

A third person also said: “A beautiful reminder of what this season is about, unity, faith, and standing with those who suffer. In moments like this, leadership means bringing people together, not pulling them apart. Powerful to see so many voices of hope under one roof.”

Together at Christmas carol service

Both King Charles and Queen Camilla were notably absent from Princess Kate’s Christmas carol service, which took place on Friday (December 5) at Westminster Abbey. The royal couple have only attended the service once before, in 2022.

In attendance this year were the Prince and Princess of Wales, their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and royal relatives such as Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Mike and Zara Tindall. Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, also joined the congregation of around 1,600 people.

Now in its fifth year, Friday’s festive service had the theme of “love in all its forms”. It also featured a tribute to the late Duchess of Kent, who died in September.
