Lady Kitty Spencer’s looks are often compared to her late aunt Princess Diana. So it is unsurprising that her outfits are compared too.

Lady Kitty Spencer recently stepped out to the Centrepoint Christmas service. She joined the congregation at Christ Church Spitalfields, to support the cause which is very close to her heart.

Lady kitty Spencer channels Princess Diana

The 34-year-old has been a patron of Centrepoint for nine years and often supports her cousin Prince William at events for the organisation.

The duo are upholding the legacy of the late Princess Diana, who became a patron for the charity in 1992.

It seems Princess Diana was on Kitty’s mind as she channelled her late aunt with a striking scarlet outfit (pictured here).

Kitty’s long coat looked to be inspired by Princess Diana’s 1985 Christmas day outfit that she wore at Sandringham.

The royal joined the late Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Anne for photos outside the St Mary Magdalene church and rocked the red military-inspired Piero de Monzi coat with black buttons.

She complemented the ensemble with a black hat by milliner Marina Killery and a black hand muff.

Diana also wore other red and black outfits on Christmas Day, over the years. In 1986 she wore the same colour palette with a slightly different silhouette, with the coat dress flaunting a flowing cape section and a high collar.

The third followed her divorce from then-Prince Charles. In 1993, Diana rocked a bright red double-breasted coat which she paired with a black hat and veil.

The outfit would go on to inspire a costume featured in Pablo Larrain’s biopic, Spencer, which centred around a Christmas spent with the royal family, as per reports.

Princess Kate recreates Diana’s look

Lady Kitty Spencer isn’t the first royal to recreate Diana’s iconic festive outfit.

In 2006, Princess Kate, then known as Kate Middleton, wore a comparable outfit comprised of a long red coat and black hat.

She wore the iconic combination as she visited Sandhurst Sovereign’s Parade alongside Prince William.

Princess Diana is said to have not looked forward to Christmas at Sandringham.

Princess Diana’s thoughts about Christmas at Sandringham

According to her biographer Andrew Morton, Princess Diana saw Christmas at Sandringham as “highly fraught,” “terrifying and so disappointing.”

“No boisterous behaviour, lots of tension, silly behaviour, silly jokes that outsiders would find odd, but insiders understood,” she said. “I sure was [an outsider].”

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward previously told The Sun that “Diana used to always leave after lunch. When things were really not going well at all, she was to dread these royal family Christmases. And she would always—and sometimes she escaped even before lunch and just did the church.”

Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell is also quoted as telling Marie Claire that Diana found Christmas at Sandringham to be “like a pressure cooker,” adding that “she had to grin and bear it” since she “knew that was her duty.”
