Prince William is well and truly getting into the festive spirit as he attended a Christmas party alongside the Welsh Guards today (December 11).

The prince serves as the regiment’s colonel and has visited them on Salisbury Plain on official royal engagements. But it was a much different visit this time.

With only two weeks until Christmas, Prince William was definitely getting into the spirit as he made a surprise appearance at a festive party.

Prince William attends Christmas party

During his surprise appearance at the Welsh Guards barracks in Windsor, Prince William served up some Christmas pudding. And he even got stuck in with the festivities and shared a pint with the troops.

The prince started his visit by serving Christmas pudding to those in the juniors ranks. After that, he headed to the Sergeants’ Mess to catch up with the first Battalion over drinks.

It was during this conversation that William helped himself to a pint, and chatted about what they have all been up to since he last visited them. He appeared interested hearing all about their recent trip to Kenya.

William last visited the Welsh Guards back in November 2024. During that trip, he wore his full military uniform and joined the troops for a live firing exercise.

Photos from William’s time at the Christmas party were shared on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ official Instagram account.

The images were accompanied with the caption: “Happy Christmas to the Welsh Guards! Proud to be Colonel of Regiment – and to serve pudding to the Junior Ranks this year! A huge thank you to the soldiers and families of the Welsh Guards for everything you do.”

How do the royals spend Christmas?

The festivities are well and truly in full swing for the royal family as last week, Princess Kate’s annual Christmas carol service took place.

William and Kate, alongside their three children, attended the celebrity-packed service at Westminster Abbey for an adorable evening.

Typically, the Wales family spend Christmas at Sandringham Estate with the rest of the royal family.

Last year, Prince William said of his Christmas plans: “We’ll be 45 for Christmas. It won’t be quiet, it will be noisy. Am I ready for Christmas? No, no way am I ready.”

On Christmas morning, they all embark on a public walkabout to greet locals who have gathered. They also attend a church service in Sandringham.

But as for the actual gift-giving part of their Christmas, that is believed to happen on Christmas Eve. Usually this would involve funny or homemade gifts for each other.
