King Charles and Queen Camilla's 'stern request' to royal butler over unfortunate blunder with his appearance

How embarrassing!

King Charles and Queen Camilla once made a stern request to a royal butler, he has claimed.

Grant Harrold, the former royal butler to King Charles, has recalled an unfortunate blunder with his appearance that led to him being briefly removed from his duties.

Royal butler ticked off by Charles and Camilla

Grant worked for the royal family from 2004 to 2011. In his new book, The Royal Butler, he has shared a disastrous anecdote from the second year of his stint.

In the hope of brightening up his “pasty white” skin tone, the butler had apparently turned to fake tan. However, it seems he got a little more than he bargained for.

“Rather than the bronzed Adonis look I had been going for, I had to admit I looked more like an Oompa-Loompa,” he recalled, as per the Daily Mail.

The following day, the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall returned home from a trip and were taken aback by their butler’s changed appearance.

I’ve been requested to ask you not to go back in tonight.

Grant described how, as he served them their evening meal, they “kept looking” at him. They apparently had not even tucked into their main course before taking action.

Grant was quickly summoned by the head butler, who reportedly told him: “I’ve been requested to ask you not to go back in tonight, because they’ve said the smell’s too strong for them.”

He claims he had to take two days off for the scent to completely disappear.

Prince William’s cheeky comment to butler

However, it seems the embarrassing ordeal was not over there! During the same weekend, Grant apparently bumped into a young Prince William who proceeded to do a “double take” and savagely ask him: “What have you done?”

After Grant sheepishly explained he’d had a spray tan, William cheekily asked him if it was “everywhere”.

The butler apparently confirmed that it had been a full-body tan, with the prince then quizzing him if it was “on your toes” and asking to see.

“I felt I had to oblige and, as I took my socks off, I thought of the Queen [Elizabeth II], who had only recently blessed people’s feet at the annual Royal Maundy service, on the day before Good Friday,” Grant penned. “I wondered what she would have thought, had she been exposed to my strangely coloured feet.”

He added: “I probably had my answer.”

Meanwhile, Prince William apparently found the situation very funny.

“He thought it was brilliant – when he was finally able to compose himself,” the butler claimed.
