Meghan Markle and Prince Harry warned of 'make or break' Christmas: 'There's no easy solution'
It's a tricky time of yearThis Christmas could be “make or break” for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a royal expert has warned.
The Sussexes are expected to spend a seventh Christmas away from the royal family, despite earlier hopes of a reconciliation.
During a solo trip to England back in September, it was revealed that Prince Harry had reunited with his father King Charles for the first time in 19 months. Buckingham Palace confirmed that the father and son had indeed met for a “private tea” together at Clarence House, the king’s London residence, albeit for under an hour.

Prince Harry and Meghan ‘in a very isolated place at Christmas’
This update, along with the recent reports that the Sussexes’ downgraded UK security is once again under review, led to speculation over whether Prince Harry might be joining his royal relatives for Christmas.
But royal biographer Tom Bower has claimed it’s not that simple. He told OK! Magazine: “Harry clearly met his father with the hope that he could ingratiate himself back into the family, but it isn’t going to work, there is just no way back for him. Harry himself said he didn’t know how long his father has got, and I think that hangs over him, but I don’t think he’s that high up on Charles’ list of priorities.”
Of course, Meghan has also been estranged from her own father. Their relationship reportedly deteriorated in the lead-up to her marriage to Prince Harry in May 2018, with Meghan’s mother being her only family member to attend the wedding.
Thomas Markle recently expressed his desire to repair their bond, as he underwent life-saving surgery. He had to have his left leg amputated below the knee due to a blood clot. Meghan reportedly reached out to her father, sending him a letter.
But, according to Bower, these fractured family ties on both sides leave the couple “in a very isolated place at Christmas”.

Harry and Meghan’s career away from royal life
The biographer added that he believes both Harry and Meghan are also facing career uncertainty this festive season.
With Meghan’s recent Holiday Celebration special of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan receiving mixed reviews, and pressure for her As Ever Christmas collection to sell, he reflected: “This Christmas is make or break time for Meghan. If it doesn’t work this Christmas, they have a real problem about what they will do in 2026.”
As for Prince Harry, his workload has lightened after hosting the Invictus Games at the start of the year and stepping back from the Sentebale charity back in March. The Duke of Sussex resigned from his role as patron amid a dispute between the organisation’s trustees and its chairwoman.
“The next Invictus Games is in 2027, so what is he going to do for a year? There’s just no easy solution to the problem they have,” Bower concluded.
