Kate Middleton's passion for ballet that she shares with daughter Princess Charlotte
The mother-and-daughter duo have been spotted attending live performances together
Princess Charlotte may be just 10 years old, but she’s already developed a passion for ballet, one that she shares with her mother, Kate Middleton.
Over the years, the Princess of Wales has quietly nurtured Charlotte’s love of dance, with private lessons, surprise performances, and mother-daughter theatre outings.

Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte’s shared love for ballet
During a visit to a textile printworks in September 2023, Kate revealed to a young girl that Charlotte was a keen dancer.
“My daughter Charlotte likes dancing, she loves ballet and tap,” Kate said warmly, according to HELLO!.
Meanwhile, Prince William first revealed in 2018 that Charlotte “loves dancing”. In 2017, Kate told English National Ballet director Tamara Rojo that her daughter was completely enamoured with the art form.
Charlotte’s love of ballet has also shown up in several public moments.
In 2023, Charlotte and Kate were reportedly seen at the Royal Opera House attending a ballet adaptation of Cinderella ahead of the little girl’s eight birthday. There were no official photos. However, theatre-goers took to social media to share their excitement after seeing the royals in the audience.
According to one audience member, they even joined the cast on stage for a post-show photo.
As reported by HELLO! at the time, the person wrote: “First visit to @TheRoyalOpera in @CoventGardenLDN to see #Cinderella. Wonderful ballet with fabulous performances by a great cast. And who should be in the audience? The Princess of Wales with Princess Charlotte and her friends.”
Back in 2019, Kate shared that Charlotte’s passion for ballet began after a “little introduction” from a member of the Royal Opera House.
According to The Telegraph, Kate said: “[She’s] very lucky,” adding that her daughter had been “keen ever since”.

Princess Charlotte’s hobbies
In 2018, reports claimed that Charlotte was taking weekly private ballet classes.
More recently, her admiration for the art form was on full display during the Princess of Wales’ annual Christmas carol service in December 2024.
Kate had secretly arranged for soloists from the Royal Ballet to perform as a special surprise for her daughter. She enlisted her youngest son, Prince Louis, to help keep the secret, although she later admitted he had been “bursting” to tell Charlotte.
Still, when the performance unfolded at Westminster Abbey, Charlotte appeared genuinely awed.
Princess Kate’s passion for ballet
Kate also shares a passion for ballet. Last year, she privately attended a performance of Giselle by the English National Ballet at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London.
On X, Kate gushed after her visit: “Congratulations and thank you to @ENBallet and @Sadlers_Wells for the wonderfully powerful, moving and inspiring performance of Akram Khan’s Giselle. Creativity at its best! C.”
While Charlotte also reportedly enjoys gymnastics, tennis and horse riding, ballet appears to hold a special place in her heart, just like it did for her late grandmother, Princess Diana.
As a child, Diana reportedly dreamed of becoming a professional ballerina before being told she was too tall. But her love for dance remained lifelong.
She famously surprised then-Prince Charles with a stage performance of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl at the Royal Opera House.
William previously said: “My mother always used to dance. She loved dancing. If it’s something you love, do what you love. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.”
Even Charlotte’s brother, Prince George, shared in the family’s dance enthusiasm. He reportedly took ballet lessons during his time at Thomas’s Battersea school. William once noted that George “loves” dancing.
