Prince William was caught off guard while filming in Windlesham Park when a playful dog and its shocked owner wandered into his path.

The Prince of Wales, 43, was filming a short film for Fields in Trust, a charity he supports as patron, when the sweet interruption happened.

Strolling through the park with former England footballer Jill Scott, the royal was chatting about the importance of protecting green spaces when an off-leash dog ran straight toward him.

Prince William surprised by dog walker in behind-the-scenes video

As seen in a video shared to Instagram by Fields in Trust, the dog’s startled owner rushed over and suddenly realised who the dog had bounded up to.

“Oh my God,” she exclaimed, clearly stunned to find herself face-to-face with royalty.

Jill, 38, quickly reassured her with a smile: “It’s okay, don’t worry.” Meanwhile, Prince William took it all in stride, chuckling at the surprise encounter.

As a dog walker myself, I’d love to run into Prince William!

“Bless her,” Jill added as the dog and walker headed off.

Fans took to the comments to gush over the sweet blooper.

“Aww. Best off-leash story I’ve seen,” one wrote.

Another commented: “As a dog walker myself, I’d love to run into Prince William!”

The video was part of a campaign celebrating Fields in Trust’s 100th anniversary.

In the video, Jill reflected on her childhood, saying: “A lot of my childhood was just going to the local park, playing football. Without them, I probably would never have gone on to play football at any level.”

Prince William echoed her sentiment: “Having access to fresh air, a bit of peace and quiet, greenery, it’s so good for our minds and bodies. You need to have that space.”

The pair went on to cheer on kids playing a match nearby, each backing a team. “We have to beat Jill,” William joked.

But when her team won, he playfully protested: “We can’t stop yet!”

Prince William’s dog

William’s easy reaction to the rogue dog is no surprise.

The father of three is a known dog lover and shares a cocker spaniel named Orla with the Princess of Wales.

Earlier this year, William brought Orla along for a walk around Windsor Castle while filming an episode of The Reluctant Traveler with Schitt’s Creek actor Eugene Levy.

Besides being a canine fan, William’s appearance in the film reflects his long-standing commitment to community and environmental causes.

As patron of Fields in Trust, William is passionate about ensuring everyone, especially children, has access to safe, clean, and protected outdoor spaces.

The organisation’s slogan says it all: “Once a green space is lost, it’s gone forever.”

The Prince of Wales’ support of Fields in Trust is part of a broader environmental mission that’s become a defining pillar of his public work.

In 2020, he launched the Earthshot Prize. The global £1 million award is given annually to five winners developing groundbreaking climate and sustainability solutions.

His wife, Kate, also shares his love of the outdoors. She recently revealed that spending time in nature had been a key part of her healing journey following her cancer diagnosis.
