Prince William's moving message to Princess Kate 'let everyone know how proud he was' of her
William praised Kate's strengthA glimpse into Princess Kate and William, Prince of Wales’ loving relationship was shown this time last year, when Wills shared a very touching message to his wife.
In just a few days, Princess Kate will mark her 44th birthday and of course, we are expecting to see another moving display from the Prince of Wales.
The William penned a loving message to his “incredible” wife as she turned 43 on January 9, 2024. He reflected on the past year, which saw Kate diagnosed and undergo treatment for cancer.
A year on, things are very different.

Prince William praised ‘incredible mother and wife’ Princess Kate in birthday message
Twelve months ago, William praised Kate for her “remarkable” strength during her health ordeal. Twelve months on, the princess has made a gradual return to royal duties and even shared she is now in remission following her battle with an undisclosed form of cancer.
This year, the Wales family have appeared to be thriving and we predict that William’s birthday message to Princess Kate will reflect that.
William and Kate stepped out together on several royal outings in 2025.
They even attended state visits, where they played formal roles including welcoming US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump and dining with German president Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at Windsor Castle, alongside the king and queen.
Kate even made a solo milestone of speaking in her first public speech following her cancer diagnosis.
In recent weeks, the whole Wales family have made a huge transition to living at Forest Lodge at Windsor Great Park, another huge change for the family.
Prince William heartfelt birthday message to Princess Kate
Although we are already looking ahead to William’s tribute to Kate, which he is likely to share on her birthday next Friday, we are also reflecting on the sweet words he shared last year, when Kate turned 43.
Last year, William’s caption may have held a hidden message, or so claimed a royal expert.
Prince William wrote alongside a black and white image of Kate smiling, taken by photographer Matt Porteous: “To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable.
“George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you. Happy Birthday, Catherine. We love you. W.”
Royal historian and commentator Dr Tessa Dunlop weighed in on the touching message. She stated that William was “letting everyone know just how proud he is of his wife”.
She told the Mirror at the time: “Authored by William, with the tell-tale W sign-off, he shares his great admiration for a ‘most incredible wife.’ And the prince goes even further, speaking for him and his children, William publicly reaffirms their adoration for Catherine in three simple words: ‘We love you.’

“Statements don’t come much more powerful than that. Gone are the days when royally kept their distance and avoided overtly sentimental displays of affection; William is letting everyone know just how proud he is of his wife, and likewise what they have achieved together.
“Contrary to monarchy’s reputation in recent years, here is a functional family that can face down adversity together.”
In September 2024, Kate announced she had completed her cancer treatment. She also detailed the “incredibly tough” time she and her family went through.
The Prince of Wales himself also opened up about the “brutal” time during a solo visit to South Africa in November 2024. As well as Kate, his father King Charles was also diagnosed with cancer.

Prince William admitted 2024 was a ‘brutal’ year for him and his family
He told reporters: “I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal.”
The prince also admitted it had “probably been the hardest year in my life”.
Since then, it seems William has had a brighter year. Hopefully 2026 holds more blessings.
