Royal nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo reportedly has a special priority when it comes to teaching Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

And apparently, this supposed rule is in place to benefit their very royal futures…

Maria has made headlines this week. She has made the New Year Honours list with a Royal Victorian Medal (Silver) for her services to the Wales family.

This spotlight has no doubt left royal observers wondering about the duties she fulfils.

Although some details about Maria Teresa, like her reported six-figure salary and how she never calls George, Charlotte and Louis “kids”, have emerged, little is really known about everything she does behind the scenes. However, one special rule has come to light, apparently.

And this prioritisation is believed to benefit the three siblings for years to come.

Maria, who is Spanish, has reportedly been instrumental in helping the children to learn the language.

The Norland College trained nanny is said to be guiding the children as they learn new languages.

The Wales family tutoring

And the Prince and Princess of Wales’ keenness to ensure their children are equipped with other languages isn’t that surprising.

As per reports, they both know a number of languages respectively.

Prince William is reportedly proficient in French, Welsh, Spanish, German, Gaelic, and Swahili.

Meanwhile, Princess Kate is said to have foundational knowledge in French and Italian.

Danielle Stacey, Online Royal Correspondent for Hello!, has lifted the lid on why this tutoring is so important for the trio.

They said: “Given the fact that George, Charlotte, and Louis will probably carry out full-time royal duties in future and will meet people from all over the world, it’s no wonder that the Princess of Wales wants her children to be confident linguists. Kate also spent time in Chile on her gap year, and no doubt will have picked up some of the language. And of course, it helps that the children have their very own tutor in the form of their nanny Maria, who can help them practice.”

George, Charlotte and Louis’ language skills

It seems that Maria Teresa’s influence and guidance has had a profound impact on the children’s language skills.

According to reports, by the time Princess Charlotte headed off to nursery, she could already count in Spanish. George had also learnt to count in Spanish at a similar age.

This tutoring not only widens the children’s horizons, it is also said to equip them with skills that will aid them in their royal careers.

The Centre for Educational Neuroscience has previously highlighted that data from the Department for Education demonstrates how important it is for children to be fluent in English.

The data reportedly explains that “pupils who are not fluent in English when they start school or enter into English schooling during late primary or secondary school are more likely to experience academic difficulties”.

This is said to probably be due to the language barrier.

How these teachings will equip them in the future

This data is also said to explain that bilingual children find a type of thinking known as executive control easier than those who only speak one language.

Executive control is a cognitive process that supports goal-directed behaviour. This means those who are proficient in the skill can flip between tasks easier.

They can also monitor actions to attain chosen objectives more smoothly.

That sounds very helpful for a future working royal!
