King Charles shares tribute after the death of Eva Schloss MBE
The king penned to social media:”My wife and I are greatly saddened to hear of the death of Eva Schloss.”
He continued: “The horrors that she endured as a young woman are impossible to comprehend and yet she devoted the rest of her life to overcoming hatred and prejudice, promoting kindness, courage, understanding and resilience through her tireless work for the Anne Frank Trust UK and for Holocaust education across the world.
“We are both privileged and proud to have known her and we admired her deeply.
“May her memory be a blessing to us all.”

The Anne Frank Trust shared that Mrs Schloss passed away on Friday, January 3, in London.
“As a girl, Eva Schloss-Geiringer lived on the Merwedeplein in Amsterdam, opposite Anne Frank’s home,” the trust stated.
“Like Anne, Eva and her family had to go into hiding from the Nazis, and after two years spent underground they were tracked down, arrested and deported. Eva survived Auschwitz.”
Eva Schloss’s heart-wrenching story
Auschwitz survivors Eva Schloss and her mother Elfriede Frank were liberated by the Soviet army in January 1945. However, at that time, they were barely alive.
Tragically, her brother and father both died in captivity.
Eva Schloss’s mother was repatriated to Amsterdam and went on to marry Otto Frank, the father of Anne Frank, who had also managed to survive internment by the Nazis.
Following Mrs Schloss’s death, her family have expressed their “great sadness”.
They lovingly described Mrs Schloss as their “dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother”.
Eva Schloss’s family speak out
In a tribute shared with the Jewish News, the Schloss family said Eva Schloss was “a remarkable woman: an Auschwitz survivor, a devoted Holocaust educator, tireless in her work for remembrance, understanding and peace”.
Eva Schloss’s work as co-founder of the Anne Frank Trust UK has preserved Anne Frank’s memory and educated people about the Holocaust.

Schloss worked tirelessly to spread awareness and share Anne Frank’s story, as well as her own, often travelling across Europe to do so.
Eva dedicated her life to ensuring history doesn’t repeat itself.
In doing so, she sometimes brushed shoulders with the royals.
Previously, Eva shared a memorable moment with King Charles.
The duo danced together during a Hanukkah celebration at a Jewish community centre in North London.
The monarch was reportedly in high spirits after enjoying a spin on the dance floor with Eva.
In 2022, Eva Schloss was photographed with Queen Camilla, who is a patron of the Anne Frank Trust UK. The pair both attended a reception on Holocaust Memorial Day together.
Undoubtedly, Eva’s legacy will continue to live on.
Most notably through her books, talks and especially through the lives she has touched through the Anne Frank Trust UK.
