Prince Harry is reportedly hoping 2026 will be the year King Charles reconnects with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, amid fresh optimism surrounding his UK security battle and the king’s improving health.

Prince Harry’s ‘hope’ for reunion with King Charles

According to friends of the Duke of Sussex, Harry is “desperate” for a reunion between the king and his children. They reportedly haven’t seen their grandfather since June 2022, during the late Queen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations.

Since then, security concerns and strained royal relations have kept the Sussexes in California and King Charles in the UK.

“Harry has made it clear that he would love his dad to come and visit him and the family,” a source told The Sun. “He knows that they are strained. But he has mentioned several times a hope that his father can have a relationship with his grandchildren.”

King Charles is reportedly scheduled to visit the United States in April alongside Queen Camilla. The couple have reportedly been invited for a meeting with former President Donald Trump during the 250th anniversary of American independence.

As a result, apparently, Harry now sees a rare opportunity for a personal visit. He would reportedly love for the monarch to visit his Montecito home during the trip.

Prince Harry’s security battle

Another key development potentially paving the way for a family reunion is Harry’s reported progress in his legal battle over his UK security.

After stepping down as a working royal in 2020, the prince lost his right to automatic taxpayer-funded police protection in the UK. His security was downgraded after he moved to the US. His security is currently decided on a case-by-case basis.

However, Harry has been appealing the Home Office’s decision.

Sources close to the Sussexes now reportedly believe Harry is close to regaining full protection during visits to the UK. This is after a new risk assessment was carried out by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which is overseen by the Home Office.

Harry has made it clear that he would love his dad to come and visit him and the family.

The decision follows Harry’s personal appeal to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood in September and reports that a stalker came dangerously close to him during a brief visit that month.

“It’s now a formality,” a source told The Mail on Sunday. They added that “security is now nailed on for Harry”.

A positive ruling could make it easier for him to bring Archie and Lilibet to the UK, something that hasn’t happened since 2022.

King Charles and Harry’s relationship

Harry and King Charles last saw each other in September 2025. It was reportedly their first face-to-face meeting in 19 months.

Their relationship has been strained since the release of Harry’s memoir, Spare, and other tell-all interviews. However, the duke has continued to express a wish to rebuild their bond.

With the king revealing before Christmas that his cancer treatment would be significantly scaled back in the New Year, there’s growing hope on Harry’s side that the timing may finally be right for a reunion, either in the US during Charles’ visit, or in the UK if the security issue is fully resolved.

Whether the reunion happens in Montecito or London, it would be nice to see the king reunited with his grandchildren.
