'Change' to Prince William and Kate Middleton's marriage after going to 'hell and back'
The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in 2024Prince William and his wife, Kate, Princess of Wales, are more “united” than ever in their marriage following her cancer battle, a royal author believes.
2024 was a tough year for the Prince and Princess of Wales as Kate was diagnosed with cancer. That year, Princess Catherine, 43, stepped back from duties to focus on her cancer treatment.
Then, early last year, the Princess of Wales announced she was in remission. She has slowly returned to her royal duties since.
But during that time, William and Kate’s marriage has changed, according to an expert. Kate’s illness seemingly brought them together, making them stronger than ever.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s marriage ‘more tight-knit’ than ever
Royal author and commentator Katie Nicholl shared her thoughts on the couple. This April will mark 15 years since William and Kate married at Westminster Abbey.
Speaking to OK!, Nicholl said: “William and Kate look more united today than ever. They are a proper partnership, and theirs is a marriage based on friendship, love and mutual respect. They’ve been to hell and back in the past year or two, but they look very, very strong together, and they are clearly very in love.”
She continued: “Going through cancer can make or break a couple, but we’ve heard William speak so movingly and openly about his love for his wife, and his admiration for everything she’s been through and navigated.
“He’s spoken very candidly about 2024 being the toughest year of his life. He didn’t know if he was going to lose his wife and the mother of his children, and that is an awful place to be.”

What did William say about Kate’s cancer battle?
In late 2024, the Prince of Wales opened up about Kate’s cancer ordeal as he paid a solo visit to South Africa.
As well as Kate’s health battle, William’s father, King Charles, was also diagnosed with cancer. The king continues his treatment into this year, however, he recently revealed it will be reduced.
They are a proper partnership, and theirs is a marriage based on friendship, love and mutual respect.
Prince William told reporters: “It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.
“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal.”

William and Kate approaching 15 years of marriage
This year will see the Prince and Princess of Wales celebrate a big relationship milestone.
On April 29, they’ll celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary.
For their 14th anniversary last year, the couple visited the Isle of Mull in Scotland. At the time, William and Kate shared an intimate photo of them with their arms around each other, near a lake, looking out across a stunning Scottish landscape.
They captioned the post: “Wonderful to be back on the Isle of Mull. Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome. W & C.”
