Princess Charlotte seemed to showcase a new confidence during the royals’ Christmas Day walkabout last month, a royal commentator has said.

The princess, 10, stepped out with her parents and her brothers to greet well-wishers who had gathered in Sandringham on December 25. The walkabout happens every year as members of the royal family attend a church service on Christmas morning.

This year, Princess Charlotte stunned fans with her behaviour towards the well-wishers.

Princess Charlotte’s ‘confidence’ during Christmas Day walkabout

During one sweet moment, Charlotte shared a hug with a woman in the crowd.

Charlotte’s “impeccable” manners also won over fans as she asked security to hold her gifts so she could hug the well-wisher. You can see the moment here.

She was launching into the crowd by herself, no longer with her mother’s guiding hand on her shoulder.

On X, fans gushed over Charlotte’s behaviour during the festive outing. One person said said: “Love when Princess Charlotte said to their security guard, ‘Can you hold this PLEASE’ then proceeded to go and hug the woman, she’s such well mannered and kind-hearted soul.”

Another commented: “Oh my goodness this is such a beautiful clip. You can see the way she talks to her RPO too. She said, ‘Can you hold these please’ then said ‘thank you’ before going to hug the lady. She has impeccable manners.”

‘No longer with her mother’s guiding hand on her shoulder’

Now, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has praised Charlotte’s confidence.

She told the Mirror: “The children are an absolute delight to see at occasions like this. I think William and Catherine have done a wonderful job in acclimatising all three children to public life.

“I was struck, in particular, by how confident young Charlotte seemed on Christmas Day.”

She added: “She was launching into the crowd by herself, no longer with her mother’s guiding hand on her shoulder, chatting with the well-wishers who’d gathered, bending down to shake hands with wheelchair users, and even giving one or two members of the crowd a big hug.”

On Christmas Day, as Charlotte mingled with the well-wishers, it was Prince William who kept an eye on his daughter.

William in ‘protective dad mode’ with Charlotte

In one clip, seen here, Charlotte handed her gifts to a police officer next to her. She then took a step back and posed for photos with members of the public in a crowd.

William was seen watching the interaction, as he shouted out: “Charlotte, you okay?”
