Prince William and Kate Middleton share touching moment on surprise hospital visit
The Princess of Wales briefly mentioned her health journeyPrince William and Kate Middleton made a surprise joint hospital visit on Thursday as they reflected on her cancer journey.
The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with cancer in 2024 and underwent treatment. In January of 2025, Princess Catherine announced she was in remission.
Since then, she has slowly been returning to royal duties. On Thursday (January 8), Kate and William visited the Charing Cross Hospital in west London.

Prince William and Kate Middleton make surprise joint hospital visit
As joint patrons of NHS Charities Together, the Prince and Princess of Wales wanted to show their support to healthcare workers.
According to GB News‘ royal correspondent Cameron Walker, William and Kate’s appearance at the hospital was met with gasps.
He said: “The patients and the staff and the volunteers were not aware that the Prince and Princess of Wales were coming. All they were told was that there were VIPs coming. All of us turn up with the camera crew and then the prince and princess walk in and [there were] gasps from the volunteers.”
The royal couple met with staff on their tea break. They spoke about the pressures the staff face during the winter virus season.
During the visit, the Princess of Wales also bonded with a volunteer who worked with chemotherapy patients.
The volunteer mentioned how patients and visitors are there “for hours”. As reported by HELLO!, Kate said: “I know.”
She then reportedly touched William’s arm next to her, adding: “We know.”

Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales gave a speech during the visit.
Speaking to NHS charity CEOs and Trustees, policy makers and philanthropists, William said: “Catherine and I just had a very nice tour round the rehabilitation unit upstairs and seen some of the supporting structures and things put together by the NHS charities together.
“Both of us had different experiences with hospitals, me working with the air ambulance and Catherine with her recent health journey, and coming here today reminds ourselves just how important all the teams are, all the staff, the patient sort of interactions.”
He added: “It’s so heart-warming and it’s so important that we kind of acknowledge and appreciate all that goes on in the NHS, and that very strong bond between patient and carer.”
Photos were later shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram page. The images showed Princess Catherine looking chic in a burgundy suit while William wore a jumper, shirt, tie and blazer.
