Prince William once jumped into “rescue mode” with his wife, Kate Middleton, according to a body language expert.

At the Commonwealth Day service in 2022, the Prince of Wales stepped in to support his wife with a romantic gesture.

Kate, who is celebrating her 44th birthday on January 9, looked stunning in a royal blue coat dress and matching hat. But she was caught off guard as it started raining outside Westminster Abbey.

But, proving he’s every inch the doting husband, William was quick to get Kate an umbrella to keep her dry.

Moment Prince William went into ‘rescue mode’ with Kate Middleton at royal service

As the rain started to come down, a royal aide rushed towards Kate with an umbrella. However, she declined his offer and continued speaking to a group of kids outside the Abbey.

But, William moved forward to hold the same umbrella over his wife’s head.

What makes this gesture even more romantic is that it is an act that William, as a future king, could have delegated.

Speaking to the MailOnline, body language expert Judi James said William “went into rescue mode”.

Judi spotted the Prince of Wales giving a “blush of pleasure” as Kate gave him a “glance of loving approval”.

Judi said: “What makes this gesture even more romantic is that it is an act that William, as a future king, could have delegated.”

William ‘happily lowers his own royal status’ to support Kate

Judi went on to say that the Prince of Wales was happy to lower his royal status to support Kate.

She explained: “This is also a statement of status. William signals that it’s his wife doing the important stuff with this gesture while he happily lowers his own royal status to support her.”

She also insisted that there was “no pose for the cameras or preening here,” and William just made it look as though “this is the kind of thing he does every day of his life”.

So sweet!

Since that event, the Prince and Princess of Wales have gone through a tough time. In 2024, Princess Catherine was diagnosed with cancer and underwent treatment.

In September 2024, Kate announced she had completed her treatment. Then, in January 2025, Kate shared the news that she was in remission.

William and Kate ‘more united than ever’ after her cancer journey

In late 2024, William admitted his wife’s cancer journey, as well as his father King Charles’ own cancer battle, that year had been “brutal”.

Royal author, Katie Nicholl, recently said that William and Kate look “more united today than ever” following the tough couple of years.

Speaking to OK!, Nicholl continued: “They are a proper partnership, and theirs is a marriage based on friendship, love and mutual respect. They’ve been to hell and back in the past year or two, but they look very, very strong together, and they are clearly very in love.

“Going through cancer can make or break a couple, but we’ve heard William speak so movingly and openly about his love for his wife, and his admiration for everything she’s been through and navigated.”
