Prince William has reportedly hired a seasoned crisis management expert as the fallout from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s past continues to shadow the royal family.

The new hire, Liza Ravenscroft, apparently joins the Kensington Palace press team during a period marked by scandal surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the continued strain with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Prince William ‘hires crisis expert’ amid Andrew scandal

According to the Daily Mail, Liza is known for her work with global communications firm Edelman. She has reportedly built a reputation for guiding high-profile clients through public storms.

Her appointment comes as the monarchy grapples with several high-stakes challenges, including King Charles and Princess Kate’s health battles, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, and the ongoing rift with the Sussexes.

Liza is joining in a non-crisis-based role in the KP press office, working on the day-to-day press interaction Kensington Palace has.

Some reports speculated that Prince William’s move signals an effort to prepare for Prince Harry’s anticipated return to the UK this summer. However, a Kensington Palace insider has seemingly pushed back on claims that the hire is crisis-related.

A palace insider told the Mail that Liza’s role is not tied to any specific drama.

“Liza is joining in a non-crisis-based role in the KP press office, working on the day-to-day press interaction Kensington Palace has,” they explained.

The source also noted that it’s common for royal communications staff to come from “an array of backgrounds”.

According to the Mail, her appointment was recommended by Julian Payne. Payne is the former press secretary to King Charles and Queen Camilla.

A source claimed this could signal “closer alignment” between Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace as Prince William prepares for his future as king.

Royal Insider has contacted Kensington Palace for comment.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal

The hire comes amid heightened attention on the royal family.

The king’s brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, remains embroiled in controversy over his links to late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew’s royal status took its final blow in October 2025, when King Charles began the formal process of stripping his brother of his remaining titles and honours.

The decision followed the emergence of a leaked email, reportedly dated February 28, 2011. The email appeared to show Andrew was still in contact with Epstein months after he claimed their friendship had ended.

Andrew had already settled a US civil lawsuit with Virginia Giuffre in early 2022. She alleged she was trafficked by Epstein and made to sleep with Andrew as a teenager, claims he has always vehemently denied. Ms Giuffre tragically died by suicide in April 2025.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle is reportedly planning her first visit to the UK in four years. The Duchess of Sussex is tipped to attend an Invictus Games event in Birmingham this July.

Her return depends on the outcome of a security review by Ravec. The government committee oversees protection for members of the royal family. Prince Harry has previously said he doesn’t feel safe bringing his family back without official protection.

Harry and Meghan’s security was downgraded when they quit senior royal duties in 2020 and moved to the US.

Harry’s relationship with the rest of the royal family also reportedly remains distant.

Despite a brief meeting with King Charles last September in London, he is not believed to have spoken to Prince William since the late Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
