Princess Anne's 'dry sense of humour' reminiscent of Queen Elizabeth with 'vandalism' joke
Princess Anne and Queen Elizabeth shared several similarities
Princess Anne and Queen Elizabeth were very alike and, as Princess Anne stepped out to attend the 35th anniversary of a London-based equine charity in February 2024, these similarities were put on show.
The Princess Royal could be seen beaming as she made the remark whilst at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, one very reminiscent of Queen Elizabeth.
Princess Anne’s very similar trait to Queen Elizabeth
Princess Anne sported a long, cream, water resistant jacket with a green lining as she was seen out and about, wearing her signature up-do hairstyle.
The 75-year-old stayed warm with a patterned, pink scarf bundled at her neck, as well as gloves and comfortable boots to complete her ensemble.
As she interacted with fellow supporters of the charity, as well as reporters, the princess was met with a ripple of laughter as she did something very evocative of the late Queen Elizabeth’s behaviour.

The princess was seen addressing reporters as she introduced them to a cake-cutting ceremony about to take place. Anne had been given the honours to slice a large, commemorative chocolate cake, on behalf of the charity.
Anne cheekily stated to reporters gathered: “I hope you all had a chance to see this cake because it really is stunning,” she began. “The instructions are that you will eat it if I cut it.”
She then quipped: “Otherwise, it’s just legalised vandalism. So, enjoy the cake!”
Princess Anne is ‘just like her mother’
The hilarious clip has since been shared online and captured those in Anne’s company erupting with laughter at her words.
“She has a great sense of humour,” stated one fan on X. “Dry like her father, cheeky like her mother!”
“I adore her,” gushed another, whilst a third pointed out that Anne is “so like her mother”.
They described her as a “brilliant” woman. How sweet!

Anne, who is Vice Patron of the British Horse Society (BHS), toured the charity site with BHS President and famous actor, Martin Clunes.
The Princess Royal, who is a former equestrian Olympian, took charge, carrying her own umbrella, as she toured the centre.
Anne also met with volunteers who help to provide riding and equine therapy for children with physical disabilities.
The Princess Royal put on a brave face
Princess Anne made the visit in February 2024, a poignant time as just three days previous, King Charles had shared his cancer diagnosis.
Anne seemingly put on a brave face and even smiled, as per reports, as Sister Mary Joy Langdon, founder and chief executive of the Pony Centre, told her that the staff “wish you and your family well at this time”.
The princess seems to boast many similarities to her late mother. Not only do they have similar senses of humour, they are both passionate about horses.
Above all, the women have favoured their families and have had long histories of showing up for their loved ones.
Princess Anne’s sweet moment on Christmas Day
Princess Anne’s sense of humour was put on show again on Christmas Day, 2025, when a member of the public called out to Anne during the royal’s Christmas walkabout at Sandringham.
The fan wished to gift her a bouquet and praised her “down-to-earth” attitude – much to Anne’s surprise.
Princess Anne could be heard asking the onlooker: “Are you sure? I’m probably the last person standing.”
As Anne accepted the bunch of yellow roses, the observer said: “You’re the first to me every year.”
The onlooker also explained that she had gifted the flowers to her as they were Queen Elizabeth’s favourite.
Anne then joked: “You didn’t pick these yourself, did you? I was going to say, your garden is doing better than mine!”
