Sarah Ferguson is seemingly keeping her head down and staying out of the spotlight as she and her former husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, face scrutiny over their links to Jeffrey Epstein.

Once known for her openness, Sarah is reportedly keeping a low profile as the fallout surrounding her and her ex-husband continues to dominate headlines.

Sarah Ferguson ‘avoiding’ the public eye amid Andrew and Epstein scandal

Royal commentator Richard Eden revealed the surprising shift on MailOnline’s recent Palace Confidential YouTube show.

“Unusually for Sarah, she’s been keeping an extremely low profile,” he said.  “Indeed, when she attended the christening of Beatrice’s daughter Athena before Christmas, she literally ducked down in the car so you couldn’t see her face.”

The 66-year-old shares daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie with Andrew.

Andrew’s association with Epstein has led to the loss of his royal titles and honours and further tarnished the royal family’s public image. As a result, Sarah also lost her Duchess of York title.

Eden added that Sarah’s whereabouts over the Christmas holidays were unknown. He contrasted her absence with Andrew’s occasional sightings.

He said: “I don’t know where she spent Christmas. Probably with friends. But unlike Andrew, who is still sometimes seen riding around Windsor Great Park on his horse, Sarah has gone from someone who is very publicity-friendly to someone who is avoiding it at all costs.”

Sarah’s presence in public has dwindled over the past few months, and insiders say it’s no coincidence. Her strategy appears to be self-preservation, keeping her head down and staying out of the headlines.

Andrew and Sarah to leave Royal Lodge amid Epstein scandal

Sarah is also preparing to leave Royal Lodge, the 30-room Windsor mansion she has shared with Andrew for years despite their 1996 divorce.

The couple have been forced to vacate the residence due to public backlash.

A source close to Sarah previously told PEOPLE: “She will continue to forge an independent life.”

Another insider added simply: “[She’s] going to move forward independently.”

Andrew is reportedly relocating to a property on the Sandringham Estate. However, palace sources have dismissed any notion that Sarah will join him there.

Sarah has faced scrutiny over her ties to Epstein too. A 2011 email in which she called Epstein a “supreme friend” resurfaced last September, prompting several charities to sever ties with her.

Her spokesperson later said the comment was sent under duress.

“Like many people, she was taken in by his lies,” they claimed.

Meanwhile, Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous memoir reignited public outrage as it restated her allegations that Epstein trafficked her and forced her to have sex with Andrew on three occasions when she was 17.

Andrew continues to vehemently deny the allegations. He has since withdrawn from public life.

Despite the scandals, Sarah has always remained publicly supportive of Andrew. But now, it may appear she is finally preparing to step out from the shadow of her ex-husband’s controversies.
