Princess Anne details 'challenging year' in new 2026 message for Carers Trust
It's a cause close to the Princess Royal's heart
Carers Trust President Princess Anne has issued a new heartfelt message reflecting on a “challenging” 2025 for carers across the UK, while sharing a message of support and hope for the year ahead.
In her role as President of Carers Trust, the Princess Royal praised the dedication of unpaid carers and the life-changing impact of the charity’s work, while also acknowledging how much still needs to be done.
Her statement was shared by Carers Trust this week. It highlights the ongoing emotional, financial, and physical toll placed on carers.

Princess Anne shares message of hope for Carers Trust
The Carers Trust is the largest network of organisations across the UK that specialises in the support and wellbeing of unpaid carers.
“The last year has, once again, been challenging for carers,” Princess Anne began.
“Many people around the country are struggling with the demands of their caring role, unable to access respite and feeling isolated and exhausted. Carers are the backbone of our society, giving service to friends and family; a service given out of love despite the high price in terms of their own financial and emotional well-being.”
The princess praised the work of Carers Trust and its growing network of local centres. She noted that over 1.1 million carers were reached in 2025.
“As President of Carers Trust, I have witnessed life-changing support provided to carers of all ages,” she continued.
It is only by pulling together that we can make a difference for carers.
She also celebrated a major milestone for young carers in 2025.
Anne said: “Over 250 organisations, including the Welsh and Scottish Governments and UK Government departments, have signed up to the Young Carers Covenant, thereby committing them to take action, where they can, to create better and fairer futures for young carers.”
The Princess Royal signed off her letter by urging the public and supporters to continue backing the charity’s work in 2026.
She concluded: “Carers Trust has achieved a great deal in 2025. But, as ever, there is much to do. Over the coming year, I encourage you to continue your invaluable support. It is only by pulling together that we can make a difference for carers.”

Princess Anne dethroned as ‘hardest-working royal’
Princess Anne has long been one of the royal family’s most dedicated supporters of unpaid carers.
In 1991, she helped establish The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, a national charity supporting those providing unpaid care at home.
That charity would later merge with Crossroads Care in 2012 to form what is now Carers Trust, with the Princess Royal continuing her role as President.
Over the years, she has remained deeply engaged with the cause. During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, she even kept up her royal duties via video call.
One virtual meeting even featured the late Queen Elizabeth II in her very first Zoom appearance.
While 2025 brought praise for Princess Anne’s charitable efforts, it also marked a surprising shift in royal rankings. For the first time in two years, the 75-year-old was dethroned as Britain’s hardest-working royal.
In 2024, Anne topped the list with 474 official engagements, despite suffering a horseback riding injury. She also claimed the top spot in 2023 with 457 engagements.
But in 2025, despite increasing her total to 478 engagements, Anne was overtaken by her brother King Charles.
At 77 years old, the king carried out an impressive 532 engagements.
But Anne continues what she does best. Earlier this week, she stepped in for King Charles to host the first investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.
